Made up my mind.

Post by Hecter »

Last week I had a choice of a 99sav. in.358 or a marlin in .444. Well, the .358 is mine. I have shot 200gr. and 250gr. bullets in it and both shoot well. The 250gr. really recoil in this gun, but not unmanageable. I have a lyman peep sight on it and groups at 50 yards run about 1.5". Good enough for woods shooting. The gun is 1957-58 vintage and a real beauty. Thanks for all the response's concerning which rifle to buy. OK............I'll try to post pic's when I get home tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a huge fan of the 444 but think that you made the a great choice! 99 and 358, can't get much better than that!

may I suggest you try Hornady 200 SP bullets and IMR 4198 powder.

With 41.6 grains of IMR 4198, and a CCI Large Rifle Primer under that 200 grain bullet, my BLR produces just a bit under 2500 fps and one hole groups.

i can't help but think it ought to do nearly as well in other rifles.
