Hi Guys,
I needed a holster for my Ruger Super Single Six revolver so I went to the Leather and Fur shop down town and picked out some Horse Hide to make my holster out of. This morning I got out my leather tools and stitching Awl and sewed a holster by hand. Here's some pics of my home made holster.
Cutting out the leather for the holster.
Leather is all cut out and laying on my stitching horse ready to be sewn.
Leather in the jaws of the stitching horse and partly sewn.
Sewing is done. All I have left to do is cut some leather lace and finish assembing it.
Here is the finished holster.

Nah, I'm just gonna leave it natural color. I didn't have a pattern, but I have a holster for my 45LC that looks something like it so that's where I got the idea.

It is done, I'm just leaving it plane like it is and I'm also leaving it the natural Horse Hide color. I have the tools I need to make things but I don't have any tools for tooling the leather yet.
After pricing holsters lately, I've been thinking of trying my hand at that myself. Are patterns commercially available? Didn't see any on the Tandy site, but I might have been looking in the wrong place.
WOW, you have given me an idea for my next project. Nice work.

patterns are in a book of about 15 diffrent holdsters . you can order it through Tandy, also, if you take a piece of shopping bag lay it flat, make a center line turn the pistol sights down on the line and roll it one way to lay flat and trace around it then roll the other way and trace, add 3/8 inch and cut glue the edges toghter punch with a punch or I use a drill press and a 1/16 bit clanp in a wooden clamp set in a vice and stitch. not all that hard go for it! i did a bunch of knife sheaths (29) and a holdster for my gp100.

Go for it!
Yest there is at least one holster-pattern book on the market.
Look at the Tandy Leather website for Al Stolhman's Holster Patterns. The styles are rather dated, but there are patterns for a number of different styles of holsters in the book.
Additionally Tandy offered several holster designs, including thumb-break DA holsters on the Tip Sheets they gave away for free.
Another good source of holster patterns is the Leather Crafters & Saddlers Journal. They ususally have a holster pattern every other issue or so.
Send me a PM and I might be able to help you find some patterns.
