OT - Surgery it is

Post by Ysabel Kid »

Well, as some of you know, I've been dealing with a new (to me) problem with my back since late August. My right foot went numb, and I started getting shooting pains down the back of my right thigh and calf. Visited my family physician, then an orthopedic specialist. X-Ray then MRI, with a diagnosis of a pinched nerve (sciatica) due to a ruptured disc between my L5 and S1. The pain had become constant and to the point where I can't stand for more than a couple minutes, or walk more than a 100 feet or so without it dropping me. I had a spinal steroid injection 10/1, but it didn't really help. Met with the doctor Friday 10/16, and decided on surgery, a microdiscectomy, which is scheduled for next Monday, 10/26. I'll be flat on my back a few days, and won't be able to travel for about 6 weeks. Work is being great - very flexible and very supportive. Same with the family, friends, everyone. I am truly blessed.

Anyway, if you don't mind, I can always use a prayer or two. Thanks fellas!

Well, YK. I've been through five shoulder surgeries and know what it's like not moving around and bedridden. Prayers, definitely. Hoping it makes you as good as new. Does that mean you'll be around here more?

Keep us posted. I do have one question--does this mean your going to be hanging around on the board and building up your posts? :D

Good luck with your surgery. As I said when you first posted on this -- after the surgery, do exactly what the doctors and your physical therapist tell you to do. Do your exercises religiously.

Well son, I reckon I can say I know how you feel. You may not think so right now but you sure will feel better when you wake up, the pain WILL NOT be there. You will feel so good, but DON'T try to do anything except what the doctor says.
I have the surgery twice, about four years apart. A good chiropractor can do wonders for you later on to keep you lined up. Please continue with all the excercises they give, do them on a long term basis. My doctor told me if I quit I would lose alot of mobility. He was right, I have lost alot of certain movements.

Hope for a speedy recovery. Did you check with your Doctor if it is OK to surf the web after surgery? If it is you'll back on your feet before you know it.
