OT - Barnes Varmint Grenades

Post by deerwhacker444 »

I'm fixing to load up some test rounds in my 243 Win. using the 62gr. Barnes Varmint Grenade bullets. I've read conflicting reports. If I send these bullets along at 3500fps, will they:

A) Make a mess out of a coyote pelt?

or

B) The bullet will fragment inside the coyote?

I don't know who to believe but I'd like to keep some pelts. Should I stay with a harder, heavier bullet like an 85gr. TSX that it currently shoots.

Could I back the BVG's down to 3000 fps or so and have minimal pelt damage.?

What say you.?

A 62gr HP bullet at 3500? Sounds like it's going to have some splatter effect to me!

There is even a 55 grain 6mm bullet I got a box of for 6mm Rem that I want to test on varmints. If I get it done, I'll post a range report!

That one sounds even more messy.

Conventional wisdom would agree.! However, these bullets are supposed to be constructed from material that will easily fragment upon striking the target. This video shows the bullet I'm planning on using striking a cherry tomato.

I'm going to post the question over on Predator Masters and see what they think as well.
