OT- Colt New Army Navy + holster Rig
Here is a case similar to the phrase "10 dollar horse and a 40 dollar saddle" to me. The holster rig made for a Colt SAA 5 1/2 and with a 3 1/2 inch Money cartridge belt are probably worth more than the revolver or at least as much. If the holster did not have the two holes near the trigger guard opening I'm pretty sure it would be worth more than the gun. I don't have but a couple of Colt DAs so I may be off in the value of the revolver. Fill me in.
P.S. I think the cartridge belt was originally made for the caliber 32-20 also very hard to find and the holster and belt are both marked by the maker.

I love that pistol - would the holster respond well to some oil or would you leave it "as is"

No oil, saddle soap. I add neutral shoe polish sometimes but not to often.

I believe that is a New Army (not Navy) revolver. Ask the fellows over at the Colt forum, heck, I will...

Rather than saddle soap, try lexol Leather Cleaner and follow it up with Lexol Leather Conditioner. it does a great job cleaning and restoring old dry leather.
Great looking rig BTW.

Doc, I have used Lexol before and it is great on certain leather but it is according to how it was tanned. I have ruined a few because of the liquid soaking in and stiffing the leather when it dries. Even when it is used sparingly it has caused damage. Looking at this rig I would use only saddle soap. Just my two cents. I would have to have a real close look before deciding.

Nice find,.... I believe the "two holes" could be original, for a tie down.

76/444, tie downs came in much later than this rig but it could have been put in at a later time before the owner aquired it.

I wonder whats with the story about finding the rig under a saddle in the AZ desert?
The letter said his father had it since the turn of the century? Pretty much since new if it's a 1907.

the story is what intreagues me about this pistol. I think its a bit over priced alone. at 1300. but the caliber is right!!!

Rangerider7 have you ever used Skidmores Leather Cream on older leather? I use it all the time for my leather buisness but havn't used it on really old leather before. Here is the web site http://www.skidmores.com/.
