Tom Horn

I got a DVD of the Steve McQueen movie TOM HORN for Christmas. The wife went out of town today, so it was a perfect opportunity to sit down and watch it. I realized that I had never seen it front to back, all I remembered were the jail and hanging scenes.

I'm putting together a little collection of Westerns on DVD, someday my little grandson and I will sit down and watch John Wayne together. He's only 4 and I'm afraid before long the kids won't even learn about the old west in school anymore.

Sure made me want to buy an 1876 Winchester, even though I believe he was actually using a 30-30 model 94 by then.

I sure hope you teach your Grandson the "cowboy code" I grew up over here watching Roy Rogers and Hopalong Cassidy I always say it put me on the right track when growing up!

I started my son really early - in fact, westerns were the first real shows he watched when he transitioned from "Bear in the Big Blue House" type stuff! His favorite was "True Grit" - at 2 years old!

We'd be playing around the house, and he'd yell out - "Help Dad - I'm in a bad way!" Then I'd pretent to lasso him and pull him out of the snake hole.

He didn't figure out that was a girl until he was about 6!!!

Can't watch those old westerns enough. Always had the example of good and evil with the good guys winning in the end. It was an excellent example of right and wrong growing up. Now what are the kids watching, kill the cop for 1,000 pts, kill the pregnant mother for another 1,000 pts. It's just sick. Now, I'm not against all video games just the ones that go against the grain.

AND THEY HAD IT IN THE STEVE McQUEEN MULTI PACK FOR
$56 BUCKS.....I CANT FIND THE MOVIE BUY ITSELF...

You got that right! Last night I watched 3:10 to Yuma (just released yesterday). My wife even watched it with me. Loved it! Heck of a good movie!

I must have something wrong. Are you talking about McQueens lever?

I remember him stating it was a .45-60 with a "rainbow" trajectory, which was his sarcasm regarding not being the guy who shot the kid. That I remember, they said it was a really long shot. Oh Well...........

I also seem to remember the rifle having an octagon barrel.

In the movie it was, there is no hard evidence as to what gun Horn used before he used the 1894. The gun McQueen used in the movie was actually chambered in 45/75.

...The real firearm Tom Horn used, and the "reel" firearm used in the movie, are two different things.
