Steve,
I recognize those foothills in the background. You live within a few miles from my son, Sixgun Jr. He lives in Morrison on Saratoga Ave.

Steve, SSShhhhhhhhh!!! I have to warn you. My son tells me that area of Colorado is the countrie's best kept secret. Sunny 300 days a year. When it does snow, it melts within a day or two (usually :D ) No humidity. :D Nice people, nice shopping stores (lots of gunshops, etc :D ) and..................drum roll please.........its a hop and a skip over the Rockies to hit the best country and outdoor activities this great nation has to offer. :D

I'll be out there in 4 weeks for our annual elk hunt in Kremmling. :D Yea baby!!! Out of this toilet of the East Coast.----------------Sixgun

Thats what i was thinking --- i lived off Ken Caryl road in Littleton for a little bit a few years back ---- but then again, there are a few areas like this --- Colorado really is my favorite state --- i say that as a lifelong Okie. I truly aspire to own a small piece of property there some day (with my budget, very small  -- maybe a little lot and a cabin in Evergreen or something) --- Like Steve said -- just a 45 minute drive to some of the most beautiful scenery you have ever seen.

I am also a motocross guy, so the Lakewood MX Track at the entrance to the !-70 corridor does not hurt

Steve ----- dang you :x  At least the Buffs suck again this year

I was stationed at Ft. Carson 86-89 and also spent about 6 months recouping from an injury at Fitzsimmons in Aurora. Loved every bit of my time there(except the freezing part) and would go back in a heartbeat.

Thanks for sharing COSteve!

Yep, Ken Caryl Valley. I grew up in the California and thought it quite beautiful but moved here some 30 years ago and absolutely love it.

Too bad they spoiled your view with all those HOUSES...!!!

But I reckon an uprooted Kalifornian would see that as "open space..."

My Great Uncle was Superintendant of Green Mountain Dam, and my cousins went to school in Kremmling. We visited whenever we could. Grand country.

Colorado is indeed a great state - for beauty (great pics above) and wild game. I bought my house in 1975 and it was the north edge of town - since Colorado Springs could only grow north and east due to geography - I'm now informed the "geographic center" of town is about two miles east of our home. Fortunately, our back yard is next to some 15 acres or so of wooded "Open Space" area that can never be developed so we can enjoy country life in the city.

These are some of our recent visitors -

This big guy naps in our yard, grazes on the long grass ("rustic" zoning here), drinks from the bird bath, and acts like it is his personal yard.

With another buck with a scar on his side -

And - "little brother" -

Image

And, the "harem" -

Image

Image

Even this big guy regards them as friends -

Image

Outweighing most of them may be a factor

I took pictures through the developed part of our valley, not on the edge of it. Of the 10,000+ acres our association has about 4,500 are developed. That includes homes, streets, 2 schools, and developed greenbelts along the roads. The rest are untouched. You're right though, our valley isn't just open space.

However, I only have to drive for 15 minutes, most of it a two lane mountain road, to be above 8,000ft and out in the woods. Also, while I can't shoot in or from my yard (game preserve), my club range is 11 minutes away with a 50yd & 100yd pistol range, 100 yd plinking range, 100yd target range including steel at 100, 158, 175, and 200yds, 200 / 300yd range with targets and steel, shotgun range, and running deer range.

Yeah, they're everywhere! I can't see why everyone's so excited about burnt coffee!

You want good coffee; try Peruvian coffee. Now that is great coffee and as strong as you like it but it never tastes burnt.

Sorry about the poor pics. BLM'tards have been burning and we get the smoke. Vally had just cleared from the California fires, so they decided to do some more burning. Can't have clear air, can we!!

Pic South, Owl creek pass off the left, where part of "True Grit" was filmed.
Image

This one North, CowboyTutt knows the area. Friends of Billy Dixon range at lower edge of Grand Mesa, near Hotchkiss, about in the center of the pic.

Looks very beautiful Steve. I grew up in Indiana, just north of Indianapolis. The highest peak we had were the mole hills in the yard. I've always loved the look of mountains! :D

I got to pass through Denver on my last bus trip, nice country, pretty hilly. I saw 4 deer from the bus as we went through.

I've lived in various parts of Colorado for about 23 years before relocating to Oklahoma. Not a day goes by that I don't miss something about the place.

It's common for us to have double that number in our back yard. Sounds great but I have to clean up their mess every spring.
