Recommendations for a Georgia hog hunt??

Post by pahunter »

Any recomendations for an outfit offering a spot and stalk or stand hunt for hogs in Georgia? I'm not interested in anything with a "guarenteed kill", just a fair hunt. I'm limited to the Georgia because I have a plane ticket to Atlanta and my wife is encouraging me to use it on a hog hunt. What a girl!!!

When are you planning on coming? Does the ticket have to be used before a certain time? It is about to be deer season, and that will make a hunt this fall probably harder to schedule, and more expensive. If you could wait until the middle of January or even February, you could have just as good a hunt, probably cheaper. If you fly in to Atlanta, you can rent a vehicle and be at one of probably a dozen different pay-to-play operations in Middle/South Georgia within two to four hours from the time you get in your car.

Feral hogs are a big problem in Georgia. They have proliferated as a result of illegal release and relocation by so-called "sportsmen." This guy is in the "Feral Hog Control" business in Southwest Georgia. This video was made on a harvested peanut field. I think he is going to have a round of hunts sometime this Fall. Some argue that it isn't hunting, but killing. I say it is about like pass shooting doves or ducks as far as the "hunt" factor is concerned. I see no ethical problems, because the farmers see the hogs as vermin. You can imagine what damage the hogs in these pictures could do to that field in just one night.

If I were younger, and didn't have the opportunities to shoot hogs on my own property, I would have to have a taste of this. I think he charges $500 per gun-per night, with a maximum of three guns. He is a retired Master Sgt. who headed the Army Marksmanship Unit at Ft. Benning for several years. He uses modern thermal imaging scopes.

You might get some ideas from some of the posts. I think there is another Jager Pro video or two there. By the way, the hog doggers hate him because they are afraid he will kill all the hogs, and I wish he could.

I'm planning on going in January or early February. I looked at the night hunting but I just can't warm up to it, not against it, just prefer the daylight. I get the feeling there are more "scheisters" in the hog hunting business than in other pay to play hunts. Anyone you guys would stay away from in the Georgia area?

Look for Egan hill plantation. Keith is a real nice guy. I have hunted with him 6 or 7 times and always had a good time. He has recently moved to a new location near florida and I haven't been to the new place but he is a good dude. Tell him 'FAT TOMMY" told you. Good luck it is a fun hunt.
