New lever arrived today - hopefully better luck....

Post by Killer Kanuck »

...with mine than Longhair had with his.

Norinco 1887 lever action 12g.
I took a few pics of the action because there may be some out there unfamiliar with how the action works (I know I wasn't and couldn't find any when I was thinking about getting one - easiest way to find out was to buy one :D )

Bought it used, and even though the seller said he had no problems with it (more on that later  ) after reading Longhair's post earlier today I had second thoughts. And as soon as I unboxed it and tried to cycle the action, I was kinda upset. The trigger was flopping around, and only by pointing the muzzle down could I cyle it easily and cock the hammer. After some troubleshooting, the problem jumped out at me - the trigger spring was screwed onto the upper tang upside down  Some much for the other guys claim of no problems with it. :x

Anyway, it seems to cycle and eject OK, but the true test will be on the weekend. 100 rounds of birdshot and 25 rounds of buckshot should tell the tale. And for those that have heard the stock is too long to cycle the action without leaving your shoulder - I'm 6'2" and it fits me fine.

Oh, and if the barrel looks a little longer than the others you've seen - the ones Marstar impoted into Canada have a 22" barrel.

Very interesting. Has anybody ever posted an exploded drawing or a link for one of those?

Looking forward to hearing and seeing the range report - and I hope you are thrilled with your new gun! I'm eyeballing one of those - hopefully this year. :D

I tried looking online for a schematic, but couldn't find anything. Did find a site with instructions on how to remove the bolt/lever though, so that should help.

have seen a lot of complaints on this forum, about the 1887. i think it's really cool, might be tempted to by one, one day if finances get better. would like to see the bugs worked out first, though. hope you have good luck wiyh yours.

Thanks, although the 1887 is kind of the odd man out now :D
