ot ugly but somehow drawn to her
ha!
it's a gun i'm talking about.
found a usfa rodeo at the local toy shop. 45 colt,
matte nickle with blue screws, and brown plastic grips.
what a combination? this gun was stolen out of the shop,
and finally returned after recovery and trial. she got a few
small scuffs in the ordeal so is discounted slightly. with
taxes and such they want around 500.00. i can't seem to
stop thinking about it.
oh well, thought maybe talking about it would make the
hankering go away. we'll see.
looks like this

I picked up a USFA that had belonged to a southern Texas police chief. Being the China Camp model, it had not been blued or color case-hardened in the first place, anyway, and for some reason, the previous owner had it refinished by bead blasting. Anyhow, the price was right, and I have grown to REALLY like my "utility" grade sixgun, even though I have other Colts and USFAs that are prettier/"purdier." I can carry this one when I want tote a single action sixgun, but may run into some rough going. I bought this one before my stainless Ruger SA sixguns.
Mr. pokey, there is nothing at all wrong with a sixgun that has character and a story.
For that matter, I bought a Colt that has a drag line around the cylinder, that had a low price, yet seemed to be timed properly; someday I will get just the cylinder prettied-up, and the timing verified as OK.

Have Colts, will travel.

Single actions are easy to verify the timing on.
Slowly cock the hammer and watch the bolt as you do so.
After the hammer begins to move back the bolt should drop before the hand begins to turn the cylinder.
At the half cock point the bolt should be down.
As the hammer continues back the bolt should pop up right at, or very close to the point of the lead to the bolt notch.
Then when the trigger pops into the full cock notch the bolt should lock into it's notch either at the same time or very shortly thereafter.
Basically just watch the bolt as you cock the hammer and you'll see it drops down then back up.
The full circumference drag line is most likely from operator error.

Re: ot ugly but somehow drawn to her
Thanks. That is pretty much how i determined the timing was OK, and indeed figured it was operator error. That, or the timing was fixed on an earlier occasion.

Re: ot ugly but somehow drawn to her
Just remember, that many a good man found an ugly woman, and looked too long, and got her. That situation is far more serious than an ugly handgun, and actually this one you're looking at ain't all that ugly, you better grab her.
To hell with them fellas, buzzards gotta eat same as the worms.

I'd say grab it, but those grips would have to go.

The brown grips (stocks) are interesting, to say the least. I sort of like the effect.

Get it before it walks off and you end up regretting it. Those brown grips would come flying off there if I bought it.

Re: ot ugly but somehow drawn to her
pokey,
I like it ............. buuuuuuut I don't like it. Hmmmmm. OK here's what I think. If those grips were black or wood = OK. Brown plastic = eBay.
Put a set of ebony micarta on it, that would look really nice.
Also the screws need to match the satin of the rest of the gun. I don't like the contrasting blue vs satin silver look.
OR ~ who cares what the rest of us think, buy it and shoot the dickens out of it and give us a pic filled range report.

Same here. Really like the looks of that sixgun.
I have a 1911A1 that came from a Michigan property room. the old girl really got around and has a long story.
That's just makes them even more special.
Resistance is futile!
