OT: A Single Round Of 30-30 VS. The Washing Machine

Post by PaperPatch »

Good morning all,

While doing the laundry, Mrs PaperPatch discovered a single round of 30-30 I left in my pants pocket. It had endured a complete wash cycle in the G/E Heavy Duty Super Capacity Plus.

I'm heading out to the range to get some stuff ready for Antelope season; and I'm gonna bring that round along with the Marlin...just to see if it'll fire.

Will it????

Let the wagering begin. :D

If it was a factory load then, yes, it will fire. If it was one of your reloads, then, I'm not going there.

I have done the same thing. My mom used to chew my A55 when I dropped .22lr shells on the floor. It would really make her mad when she vacuumed. Never had one go off though. :)

Of course it will fire. Been there, done that, more than once.

That one needs to be in the garbage!!! Not worth the trouble it could cause. A bullet stuck half way up the barrel could make for one heck of a mess and possible ruined bore if it comes out hard.
I vote """ Throw it away""" .

Fire in the hole. But, I wouldn't.

No doubt in my mind at all -- it will fire just fine. Just this morning I fired off -- still damp from the washer -- six +P .38 rounds that had been thru the wash twice in the past 2 days (they had been in a Speed Strip in the back pocket of a really filthy pair of jeans). BANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANG!

It'll shoot. Just for the fun of it, shake the cartridge. If you feel and hear the powder inside it's dry.

With a roar and a mighty boom....it fired just fine..

I did give it the shake test after it came out of the wash to see if it was dry...and it was; otherwise, into the garbage.

In other news, the Savage 99 is ready for Antelope season. It shoots bragging-worthy groups which I would gladly back up with photos. The Samsung though, has ceased all functioning. :(

Ever tried to get a bullet out of a barrel after a squib load. Go for it, but be prepared or you might be gunless until you get the tools to remove it from the barrel.

Prolly "fire".

BTW - That's how I used to clean my empty brass, back when I was handloading. I'd put a hundred empties or so, into an pillowcase, and toss in the close washer along with a towel load. Worked great - and no media to pick outta flash holes, either.

it'll fire.

Mom used to get mad at me about pellets. a .177 pellet is the perfect size to fill up the drain holes in the washer an the only way to get them out is to puch them all the way through the hole. End result is a washer that sounds like it has a bunch of pebbles in the bottom of it.

I've only ever had one round act oddly from immersion.

That was a Fiocci 60gr SJHP in the .32 NAA Guardian I go SWIMMING with.

I dunno how many times I went swiming with that particular magazine/round loaded, but 1 of 7 (don't remember which one) squibbed.

It still exited the 1.5" barrel, but wouldn't cycle the slide.

I change ammo after swimming now, and shoot it at the range at the first opportunity.

BUT - it still went "boom", even if I had to do a quick Manual Cycle afterward.
