Where is the Miroku 1886 EL Takedown?

Post by 71fan »

I want one. I've been waiting for a long time. They have come up with every other iteration, except the most desirable one, IMO. I love the takedowns, but the full rifles are just impractical to hunt with.

Originals are through the roof....I have written them off.

It's looking like I might have to make one myself, at considerable cost. The cheapest (used) Miroku takedown rifles go for about $1250, and the milling of barrel, new wood and cap, mag shortening, adn bluing would be at least $500, I would guess, and probably more.

The problem is, as soon as I did this, they would probably release a factory one for way less money - Murphy's Law. That's why I haven't done it yet.

A reintroduction of the Miroku 1886 SRC would be very good too, but at least you can still find a few Brownings around (for about $1k).

Anyone else dreaming about these great 1886s? Has anyone ever heard of a Miroku 86 EL Takedown?

My salesman from Davidsons says the next model of the LTD 1886 will be anounced shortly. I'll post when I know what it will be.

I love mine.

Action shot of wife after she put one, yes just one magnum loaded 45-70 round down range. I quote "H@!Y SH!T" was all she said.

The Takedown DLX 1/2 Oct/Rnd barrel is still available from Davidsons. New it will set you back more then $1250 though. Other like above are available but a bit pricy now. I've seen the DLX TD NIB for almost $2K, just crazy.

Both are fine shooters, and nice to look at. I need to find a nice comfortable plinkin' load for them both. Any help from the 45-70 reloading experts out there would be much obliged.

i like the action photo, guy in the background bangin' away with the "black" rifle and the old school lever in the foreground. nice contrast.

user45...

Those are truly beautiful rifles you have there. It's great that you can get your wife to the range, let alone firing one of these cannons. I should be so lucky some day.

I just saw on Davidson's the next one is the same as the 2007 that you have, except with a half-octagon/round barrel.

Maybe my EL TD will be after that??

Actually, I bet they'll do a standard version of the PG, 1/2 oct, TD next, then maybe a standard straight grip 1/2 oct TD, then a deluxe straight 1/2 oct.......I'm sure they'll get a lot of play out of that 1/2 octagon barrel since it hasn't ever been done on the 86s.

11 grains of Unique, loose in the case, under any good 350-450 gr. cast bullet. Its under the speed of sound, has the recoil that anyone can handle, and you would be surprised what it can do out to 500 meters.-------------------Sixgun

The DLX 1/2 Rnd/OCT has been available to dealers for awhile now, it's just "allocated" to certain salesman to offer to their preferred dealers. When I called my salesman about 2 weeks ago he indicated the next version of the LTD 1886 series would be announced to dealers within a few weeks. I passed on the DLX 1/2 Rnd/OCT because I prefer the full OCT barrels, that and I'm building a .22lr AR15 for my daughter so funds have been diverted to keep the family shooting.

About my wife, she actually shoots more then I do! I'd say if you count rounds down range she shoots a 1000 to my 1 each year. We do alot of demostrations and she just loves shooting, the whole sport, and socializing with friends at the range.

Thanks for the info.

I've never seen a 1/2 oct for sale, so I assumed (incorrectly) that they hadn't hit the market yet. I've see two of the full octagons in shops around here and several on the online auction sites.

Please post here or PM me when you hear of the new edition.

That is a great picture of your wife. I envy you for having a wife that enjoys the sport, and I envy her for getting to shoot so much.

My recommendation is that you go ahead with the conversion so the rest of us can have the EL TD that Miruku comes out with about a month later!

All kidding aside, I would also love to see Miruku produce that variation.
