I have ......, I want ........

Post by J Miller »

I have:
a Win 94 Trapper 30-30 (16" round barrel, full magazine )
~and~
a Win 94 Carbine 30-30 ( 20" round barrel, full magazine).

I want:
a Win 94 RIFLE 30-30 (26" octagon barrel, full magazine ).

I want it to be factory drilled and tapped for side mount receiver sights which leaves out the original pre-war guns.

Of those made post-64, which version: Classic, Antique ( can't remember which was octagon barrel version), or Commemorative has the least gaudy trim?
And which would be the easiest and least expensive to purchase?

I want the rifle to go with the other two. Not in place of them. Sort of like a three piece set.

Just thought I'd start an honest lever gun topic for a chance.

Joe

I've had a couple Canadian Centennials. I know they offered a rifle and a carbine. Thye carbine is 20". Not sure if the rifle is 26" or shorter. I was happy with both of the ones I've owned. The second had the prettiest wood I've seen on a regular production Winchester - it also had four holes in the side of the receiver that Bubba had put there. That's why I got rid of it, finally. Here's one that's ending soon. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... =138237520

Those Canadian Centennials don't look to bad At least any of the ones I've seen up here.
They typically go for close to 450.00-550.00 Canadian dollars. Some fired others as new. They do however have the stamped metal lifter inside if I remember correctly. Though one of the better shoting 94's I have is a regular 68 model with the pot metal reciever and the stamped lifter. It looks much older than it is but shoots great and functions perfectly.

I bought an unfired,no box, Canadian centennial 26" rifle a few months ago. I installed a Lyman receiver sight and shortened the front sight. It is a very good shooter with my cast loads.
I keep .30-30`s sighted for hunting loads and others just for cast bullet target shooting. The Canadian is a fine target/plinker.
Mine has better wood than the one in the link above but I paid a little more for it.

Isn't the Canadian Centennial the one OJ has? I do like them.

The stamped carriers don't bother me none, I've had several 94s in years past with them. They all worked just fine.

Pokey,

I suppose I should have been a wee bit more specific. The USRAC made AE models are not D&T'd on the side for receiver sights. So that leaves them out.
Well, no AE model will be considered. I have no love for them at all.
I do want the full 26" barrel too.

Thanks for the links.

joe,

are you a winnie mechanic?

if you can find a cheap donor carbine, and get one of these,

http://www.e-gunparts.com/DisplayAd.asp ... erSKU=&MC=

you might have a custom job all your own. i know not a full mag. just something to think about.

I am to a certain extent, but not in the league of Griff and 20Cows.
The only problem with that is I don't care for the 1/2 magazines.
Were it a full magazine, I'd be sorely tempted.

Hey Joe,
Unk has one of those 66 gold plated recievers types with the long octagon barrel in .30-.30 no box, but if he had not thrown the box away, it would be new in box.

M1,

Is that the Golden Spike version or the 1866/1966 one?

I have... a ASM SAA in .32-20 WCF...

I want... a Winchester 53 in .32-20 WCF to go with it! :D

I'd take (I know - not one of the original choices)... a Marlin 1894 in .32-20 WCF. I do like straight-stocked, full magazine lever-actions! :D

I am not sure, but the time frame fits 1966, he bought at the PX for $96.00 dollars!

Joe, you say you want the side mount receiver sight. My son's A-E trapper has the same Williams FP receiver sight on it, but it screws into the top rails (the same holes they put there for the scope mounts).

I don't have a good pic available at the moment, But I can make one if it would help to see it.

20cows,
I'm aware of the top mount receiver sights. Unfortunately they come with the AE and rebounding hammers etc. I'm being picky this time and really want a factory top eject model.
Partly because I don't care for the AE models, and partly because I have a really neat older Williams side mount FP I traded another forum member for.
So you see, there is a method to my madness.
