Magnum primers for .38 Special?

Post by zack coyote »

Once again I must ask you gentelmen for some reloading advice. As you know primers are hard to find, but I want to load up a few hundred .38 Special rounds for my wife and I to practice with. I have 1000 small pistol magnum primers on hand and was wondering if these would be fine to use in the .38 specials. Our handguns are both .357 magnum revolvers, so I'm not really worried about the guns. I'll probably be loading 4 gr. of unique under a 158 gr. lead bullet. What say ye, will there be any adverse reactions?
We'll be remembered for what we've done, not what we have.

They'll be fine with that load.
Kind regards,

No problem! Some of the guys at the club are using mag. primers for CAS for the same reason. May drop back 10% from the starting load if you want to be sure.

Load and shoot a box or two before loading a bunch, just in case!! :D

All I have on hand are Winchester Small Pistol Mag Primers and I have been using them with 5.2grns of Universal Clays under a 125 grn Hornady. These are loaded in 38 special cases. Shoot them out of my SP101 .357 mag. They seem to me to run about like a 38 +P or so.
No problem in my gun.
