OT- A little Karma jumped up and bit me(Update)

Post by 2ndovc »

I was a terror when I started to drive. :D

Wrecked more than my share of vehicles.
So I think Mean Ole Mr. Karma bit me in the behind this weekend.

Goober #2 wrecked my Durango Saturday morning.

We were working on our rental property and I sent him out for breakfast.

Got a frantic call about ten minutes later. " Wrecked your truck"

I got there and he was almost in a fetal position next to the truck balling his eyes out.
He thought I was going to take his birthday away.
He'd lost an argument with a utility pole!

I told him that this his one freebee and if it happens again the war is on!
I think he was totally amazed that's all I said.

Here's my remodeled Durango....

It happens. I banged up my share when I was a youngster too. Glad no body was hurt.

Glad everyone is OK!

I never wrecked one as a kid (how I avoided it, I'll never know  ) but when we got married I had a '92 Eclipse that was my baby. Not much to look at (of course neither am I  ), no flash or go fast goodies but it was my baby.

Number One stepson learned to drive in it when I had a Chevelle. Pulled up in the drive one evening and there was the back of my poor baby caved in to Hell and gone. My wife came out and explained she was with him since he still had his learner's permit and some knucklehead came over the hill while they were stopped and waiting for a car ahead of them to turn and hit the rear of the (my) car.

I just asked if everyone was OK, which they were, and left it at that. I'm not sure who was more amazed, me or them...

Say, whaddaya want to trade for it?

Yeah,
unfortunately i don't think we can total it out.

It's a really nice truck but it's offroad and snow performance are pathetic.
However it rides like a Caddy and could pull a house down.

I'll find out tomorrow what the damage is. Goober is already working on the $500 deductible.

If he wasn't such a good kid he'd be in big trouble!

But he is an I'm hoping this will be his last oops!

Hi J., It was a blessing no one was hurt. My oldest rear ended a developer in his new V.W.Toureg
not long after he received his license. Soon after his rear end encounter, a state trooper clocked him doing 70 m.p.h. in a 55 m.p.h. zone. The trooper was a good guy but we still had to go to court as N.H. is not lenient with new drivers. I threatened bodily disfigurement but it almost seems they have to make these mistakes. God Bless, 1886.

There was a pile of parts on the pavement when they pulled the truck off the pole. :o

We'll see. I think it's worse than it looks.

Anyway. It's just metal and plastic. That's what insurance is for and my adjuster is a long time friend of the family.

That's cool, he'll remember that for a long time. I had my license for 2 months and I was late picking up a friend to go bowhunting. Once I got my bud picked up, I was high-tailing it down the dirt roads to get to the hunting spot before dark. I hit some washboards in the road and flipped the truck over, totaling Grandpa's new Dodge truck.

When he showed up with the wrecker, he just asked if we were okay. We said, "we were" and he never said another word about it. He didn't have to. I knew I shouldn't have been driving that fast. I always respected him for that.

My oldest daughter ROLLED my Mazda B2000 PU one night. That truck finally died after 150K miles when my son had forgotten I don't know how often to put oil in it (and once lost the cap!). My youngest has apparently learned from her older siblings but she did get a speeding ticket.

My parents were real strict on me not driving on roads until I was 16. But one day when I was 14, grandpa says: "you want to drive down to the bottom?" So I hop in and proceed to cave in the front fender of his newly repainted 68 GMC pickup. I was scared to death. But he never said anything. Just accepted it and went on. So next Sunday, my family pulls into the drive and mom says to my dad.."Look Bob, your father has wrecked his truck already...and he just had it painted." I'll tell you I about climbed under the back seat of that old Pontiac.

Well, a few years after Grandpa had passed, I fessed up to dad. I think I was pushing 40 at the time. I told him what had happened. So he says that week to my still living grandmother: "I found out you been keeping secrets from me. Ed says he wrecked the old pickup years ago and you never told." To which Grandma says: "That old fool, I gave him the dickens for ages about wrecking that truck right after he had it painted, and he never told me that Ed did that!" I still laugh. Grandpa would go to any length to protect his grandchildren...even if it meant taking the heat from Grandma.

My grandfather did things, and had me do things that no one in their right minds would attempt. But somehow we lived till the next day every time. He had me pull a badger out of it's hole once by the tail so he could shoot it. Threw a wrench at a German Shepard that was attacking me and hit it in the head...from a moving 4020 John Deere. I could relate stories for days about that man. He was as much my hero then as he is now. And he wasn't just a hero to me, but to every kid that needed a hero and was around him. Starting to tear up now, think I'll quit.

Found out today that she's not a complete loss.

Damages are $5000+. Should have it back in a week or so.
Body shop guy tells me that since Chrysler is/has been having problems
a lot of the smaller parts suppliers have gone out of business.
Taking longer to get what he needs. Aparently the suspension took a

As painful as this may seem, it may be wise to divest oneself of Mopar products.
This is truely unfortunate, as I have ridden in two Dodge trucks this year, and I considered both to be first rate.

My friend Bill,
an old Mason, has a Dodge 3/4 ton, diesel , with an engine brake, man that thing is the cats meow.
But he too has had problems with installing a aftermarket chip that negated the fuel pump cooling system, causing great ( and expensive ) havoc.

Glad your boy is OK and you've got your Durango back! I remember what my dad said when I had my first wreck - 3 weeks after getting my first pickup - "Sh*t happens". I'm hoping I have that much patience with my daughter when she starts driving.

I have to ask though, what's that about Ford engines? My '91 F-150's 302 had 289K on it and was still running good when I sold it.
