Thank You Peter44ru for the buttpad! Here it is installed

Post by O.S.O.K. »

Peter44ru read my post about slimming my Marlin 94's handguard and installing new sights, etc. and decided that it needed one more thing... his Marlin hard rubber buttpad :o Well, after insisting that I accept it, he promptly sent it my way.

When I got home this afternoon, it was waiting for me - thanks Pete!!

So, I decided to go ahead and fit it to buttstock right away - as it turns out, it was a very close match and needed very little sanding...

Hey there O.S.O.K. - Looks good. There seems to be one common trait among members of this forum. If they have a workbench, it is knee deep in miscellaneous junk. Mine included. Makes me smile... Nice job. Wind

Thanks guys :)

Mescalero - why not? Just tape the stock (you may not notice too that I left the little black spacer on there) and use a fine rasp or course sandpaper to take it down - finish with 220 sand paper - only takes about a half hour or so - maybe less.

Oh and that second photo looks like I sanded the buttstock - but that's just where I took the tape off and there was some fine dust on the stock from the sanding. The bottom one is after I cleaned it a bit more.

Stock needs some more oil now too - the initial applications soaked in all the way - pretty dry now.

You're mighty welcome, and it looks pretty good, Pardner ! :)

IIRC, the edges will polish/burnish nice & smooth by rubbing them with a laquer thinner soaked rag on the fingertip - IF you like the burnished look, i.e.

Now - Go shoot something with thet puppy !

Good thing he didn't send ME one; I'd need an instruction manual to not screw it up, and even then I'd probably still not do a quality job worthy of the donation.

Aw come on guys - this is a piece of cake. The screw holes lined up perfectly so there was nothing to do there - all's I had to do was put some tape on the stock and remove a little material off the edge of the buttplate. Easy as pie - don't let the messy shop fool ya!

Looks good. I did that to my 44, but I just used a Marlin factory pad. It still keeps it from slipping off the shoulder though.

Nice job on the buttpad. It looks great. What kind of sling is that & where did you get it?

Thanks, its a "Montana Sling" and you can get it from Cabelas or Brownells that I know of. Brownell's is a much better deal if you have an account with them.

They come in 1 and 1 1/2" widths, brown or black and have the QD swivels attached. I like the 1".

Thanks - but mine is a factory pad - hard rubber. Is that what you mean by factory pad? The one that came on mine was the red rubber one shown laying on the bench there...
