off to the range w/ The 1886 Lightweights

Have to put up a BIG thank you to this month's enabler.

TNbigbore was nice enough to sell me this nifty Winchester / Miroku 1886 !

Finally got to the range to burn up some powder this morning along with
my .33 WCF



Been working on just the right load for the .33 and had a nice 1 1/4" group going until i
pulled the last shot

The big fun was the 45-70 though. I'm really taken with this
rifle! I had very respectible groups with Remington 405 Gr JSPs. and
300 Gr. Hornady JHPs ( flyers were my fault). It didn't seem to care for my favorite cast load though
with 405 gr Cast Performance WFNLGCs.
I don't care for the rear sight. I think this one's going to get a new
receiver sight.


Big surprise of the morning was my little mouse gun.
Four out of five shots at 50 yds went into 5" the fifth was into the upright
but i was really supprised by the little Colt .25 acp!


Just another rainy day at the range and nobody around!

Looks like a good time. You know it's just not right that you have two Lightweights. I think you should send one of them to me .

5" at 10 yards was the best I could do with the Colt Junior. I sold "mine" back to the fella I bought it from as it had been his dad's. He hadn't thought it had much sentimental value when I bought it but as his dad was dying of cancer they had talked of it. It is a neat little gun. I like it about best of all the .25 ACP guns.

I was floored. This little pistol has
been in the family since it was new. My Dad stil has the box
for it.
It's always been around but since OH finally passed a concealed
carry law it's seen some use as it was intended.

Whew! That big bore 25 acp sure is somethin'. I hear thats what they use for 2000 yard sniping. ---------All kidding aside, I too have one of those but in the earlier 1908 version. Shoots great and never a hang up, even after 15 or 20 boxes of ammo. The 25 acp cartridge when shot out of a Winchester 25-35 using a Marbles adapter will hit my 8" gong every shot at 140 yards.

Ain't it neat having the range to yourself? Just you and your Winchesters. Having your four footed friends would complete it. Nice shootin' and nice 1886's. Can I have it? (both of 'em)---------Sixgun

I'm still shocked by that little .25!
I know you guys are thinking " 50yds. yeah right".
But no BS. Two handed resting on my range bag.
I thought I'd be lucy to hit the target stand. I was
aiming for the center of the stand. All shots went @
4" low and 5" right.

After playing with guns for over 40 years I have come to the conclusion there are no "inaccurate cartridges". Its the junky, cheap, over loaded, wrong twist, stupidly engineered guns they came in.-----------------Sixgun

Yeah that one I had with me in PA was my Marlin LTD III. That one still tops the list for long walks
in the woods and one of the most deadly accurate rifiles I've ever had.

I can't seem to have enough short barreled big bores
