I paid about $1300, delivered + transfer fee + background, for my Chaparral NWMP SRC. I had been wanting one for a looooooooooooooong time (since I was 6 or 7... ) and it didn't hurt a bit. HOWEVER, I'd rank the Cimarron, Uberti and Chaparral as 1, 2, 3 and that is based on the QC issues that many of the Chaparral guns have. Cimarron and Uberti are pretty close (although Cimarron wants to think their guns are the best of the Ubertis). That said, there is nothing really wrong with MY Chaparral.
Sincerely,

Hobie

But dang-it, why didn't they make those 73 replicas with 20" barrels like the original?

Really puzzles me why they did not.

Same as Hobie regarding rank....little steep on the '73 pricing for a non-traditional chambering.

Cimmaron

Post by rjohns94 »

I was very pleased with the quality of the Cimmaron 1876 in 45-75 that I had. Fit, finish and Function were outstanding. I just happened to like the sharps I bought after it better so I sold it for a mere $800.

I have the Uberti/Cimarron 1876 in 45-60. I like it a lot!

It might be instructive to check this link.

Chaparrel 45-75

Post by Ken41 »

I have a Chaparrel in 45-75. It had the barrel replaced and is now fine.
One item of note is that all of the Chaparrel 76 parts fit into an original receiver. A friend has a stripped 76 receiver. We tried the Chaparrel parts, and everything will interchange. May have a little hand fitting to do it right. All of the Chaparrel screws fit the original Winchester receiver threaded holes. I do not know if the Uberti is like this or not. It was less expensive for him to buy a complete rifle from Chaparrel than buy all of the required parts.

Bruce,

Thanks for that info. Believe I seen that at their site.

Still seems like they'd have wanted to be true to the carbine with carbine butt and 20" length.

Was the "Short Rifle" popular in the early days of the Winchester 1873?

That'd help.

Yeah, they (Uberti) make the carbine in 19".

I can't check on the Short Rifles. I'm in the midst of a move and my Madis is still in a box.........somewhere - :?

I had a Short Rifle in .357 Mag but got a hang up about the non-original chambering and the gun not being a real Winchester........... ???

I sold it to a mate who was just starting out in CAS and he's delighted. I used the proceeds for a lovely old 1885 in .22WCF -

Hello, what ever happened to the Taylor 76's. Me and my dad both bought one, both chambered in 45-60 and are quite pleased with them. Are they still making them?

Thanks, by the way, I have been collecting Winchesters for years and as of today, I am a new member to this forum.

+1 - welcome aboard! :D

Uberti quality is certainly better than Chaparral. That being said, my Chaparral 1876 works fine! :D

Thanks for the warm welcomes and the information. Believe it or not, but I found this forum through an antique farm tractor message board that I have been a member of for many years. For the last two days, I have been reading some of the many fine posts. I really don't know a whole lot about lever guns other than the many that I have owned over the years but I always enjoy fondling a good old lever gun. I find that there is little finer things in this world than holding a good rifle that also has a history to it.

Well, thanks again for the replies and glad to be aboard.

Morgan
