OT bought me a new to me 44 magnum

Post by MikeS. »

I've casually been looking for a Ruger SA in .44 magnum. Yesterday my local shop had 2 super blackhawks. One a Bisley and the other a...Well it wasn't a Bisley. I bought the Bisley for 350. I liked the feel of it a bit better. The cylinder is engraved as well.

So I immediately took it to the range and tried it out. Shot some of my reloads using Hornady XTP bullets and 2400 powder. I'll go again today and shoot a bunch more of my LSWC reloads.

So now I have the .44mag Trifecta. A SA, a DA and a lever action.

So how do you pronounce Bisley? Bys le, biz, le or?

As life goes on, 44s and 45s just keep looking better and better. And they don't have to go real fast, either, unless you want to reach out a bit farther. I just can't imagine what wouldn't be detered by a 240gr boolit going 1,100fps  My hunting loads are 300gr, but still only 1,100 or so. A little pinch of BlueDot works wonders

Congrats - a picture perhaps. The only 44 Mag I have is a Ruger and what works there interests me. I did find what appears to be a very accurate combination detailed in another thread at 44 Spl levels. What is your barrel length?

You lucky dog! I've been looking for a used Bisley for the last year. Can't find one. Going to have to spring the extra cash for new soon.

I had a Bisquero once and loved it. I got rid of it in favor of a 629. Not a good thing. that Ruger was twice the gun.

I'm torn between a Bisquero with the fixed sights and the regular Bisley with that mile long barrel.

+1 on the pics! Sounds like a nice acquisition.
I'm thinking I need to save a few pennies & get a Blackhawk 44 to go with my Red hawk & 1894 too.

Might be a dumb question but I'v always wondered why S&W didn't do anything in the single action flavor, or am I wrong & they did way back when?

Long ago, Colt and S & W discussed splitting up the handgun market. Smith & Wesson, being a Double named company opted to make Double actions....well, you see where this is going..... Harrington & Richardson, haveing so many letters, opted for making Long Guns.....this does not necessarly hold true today.

The 44 BISLEY VAQUEROS are pretty hard to find. I spent about $250 to have a regular VAQUERO (and previously 2 stainless SUPER BLACK HAWKS) converted to BISLEYS. I like the 5.5 inch barrel for general use. You might consider watching the internet auctions for the 44 "ACCU-SPORTS"...limited edition 5.5 inch stainless BISLEYS with target sights. They run about $600 and worth every penny! I had my blue 44 BISLEY cut to 5.5 inches and an action job by ALPHA PRECISION and then had the two SUPERS converted before acquiring an ACCU-SPORT 44.

I like shooting the 7.5 inch guns (had a 10.5 inch SUPER BLACKHAWK once upon a time too) BUT the 5.5 inch guns carry a lot better. You can buy a 7.5, try it awhile, and then have it cut. I just don't do worth a d*** with the 4 5/8 barrel length, but your eyesight may be different.
When they said SHARPS, I always thought BIG 50!
