big levers

Post by two bit okie »

IN "theory", should a large loop finger lever for a win 92 fit all of the clones. In my case a rossi.

As bad knees have stopped my hunting, and the standing for CAS matchs, I am going to have my Rossi mod 92's snout bobbed to 16 1/2" and get the John Wayne loop installed.

I will probably have to contact the former repair facility in OKIE city to get a Rossi lever, but so be it.

Speaking of a nose job for Rossi, I am told that here in my town, It will probably cost on the order of $150.00. does that sound about right, high, or low. It has been decades since I had any gunsmith work done.

two bit okie,

I really don't know about prices, but our own Nate Kiowa Jones is a gunsmith who specializes in Rossis and things 92. You might check with him for parts and pieces.
Here's his web site: http://www.stevesgunz.com/

FYI -I have new TWO big loop 16" Rossi 92's, that I'm thinking of swapping out for standard levers in new/minty condition.

Hagler has dibs on one, if/when I decide - prolly by the end of this month, when I shoot them a little more.

supposedly, the Duke's m-92 was a 20" model, if you want to leave the barrel alone (but he was also, like 6'4" too)

Small ones are sweeter though

two bit okie,

Here are attachments of my Browning B92, .44 Magnum, with a Rossi lever:

The lever fit the gun perfectly, but the Browning friction stud is too fat for the Rossi lever. The Rossi lever comes bare, and you have to provide the friction stud, its spring, and its retaining pin. I never got around to installing a friction stud, and I do not need one. The lever stays closed, even under Magnum recoil.

Pete, thanks for remembering me. :D

Mike, that lever is made by Rossi, too. Not WWG

John Wayne did us a 20" in one movie but the majority of the movies he used a 16" with both the full size loop like the one on Haglers B-92 and the 3/4 size like the one on Mikes Rossi.

You may be thinking of Chuck Conners the Rifleman. There were 4 known riflman guns he used, three win 92's and one El tigre clone, all 20" with the big loops. All 4 were modify so they could be spin-cocked without throwing the blank ammo out. But, because of the nature of the mod they weren't safe with live ammo.

Shawn, PM me and I'll tell you how to make the loop fit the lower tang better.

To the question, when LSI Puma went to the Chiappa guns Emmit called me and ask if I wanted the big loops LSI had left. So yes, I have some Rossi big loops.

I like the size lever you have on that one Mike. What is the finish on that rifle?

As for the "nose job" locally i recieved the same quote of $150.

Hi Brant,
That lever on Mikes gun is made by Rossi and is known as their 3/4 size big loop. Over the years Rossi has made three sizes or shaped big loop levers.

The middle one is no longer available. The top or full size is still available but the bottom one, the 3/4 size is most common now days.

The finish on Mikes gun is my Tu-Tone bead blast finish. I offer this for the bright stainless guns. Here is another example. A Revolver Rifle combo.
