New Toy!!!! Photos!

Post by gamekeeper »

Like AJMD429 I too have just bought my first 30/30. :D
It took about three and a half months to get the Police to grant me "permission" to have a 30/30 on my Firearm Certificate  :x
When I first saw these advertised in the G&A back in 1966 I thought, one day I'll get me one of those "Antique Models", well 43 years later I finally got my hands on this 1966 manufactured carbine.
I don't think it has had a lot of use and only has a few minor blemishes.
I haven't had a chance to try it yet and only have some Winchester 170gr power points, just about enough for Foxes
When I can afford it I will be getting some reloading equipment to load some lighter loads.
No doubt I will be calling on you guys for some expert advice.

Even though it's a post-1964, it look sweet. I'll let others here tell you about them; I've only had experience with pre-1964s.

May it provide you many hours of enjoyment.

Very Cool!!

Do foreign arms still have to have gov't. proof marks on them?

I have my Dad's 1911A1 and a Luger that was probably a war trophy with British Proofs.
I know the Colt is a Lend Lease pistol but I have seen commercial arms with European proofs.

94s in .30-30 are just darned Fun!!

2ndovc, yes it has British proof marks.
A while back I was hoping to buy a 92 made in 1903 off Kirk but it had to go through proof first, more expense and ugly proof marks on a fine old gun, so I reluctantly declined Kirks great offer of a 32/20. I then had to persuade the Police to let me have this 30/30 for Foxes.

Cool! I like the little engraving on the receiver. Not enough to be pretentious, but just an accent to the gun's aesthetics.

Thank God even most of the (rural) police in our country realize that WE grant permission to THEM to have guns, and WE get to specify what KIND, and even what AMMUNITION, they are allowed to use. Originally, THEY had NO say as to what WE as citizens (i.e. 'the bosses') could have, although they have banned some kinds and highly regulated others.

It is probably no consolation, but one of our family prayers daily is to give thanks that we are able to enjoy the freedoms we have. I'm glad to see that there are freedom-minded individuals all over the world.

See my "scopes on leverguns" post for a sort of 'range report' on the new Marlin .30-30.

CONGRATS, gamekeeper ! :P :P

Mayhaps, someone here will have an original Winchester buttplate for you to re-install - unless the gennie was saved when the pad was installed.

Nice!!! I love my '94 .30-.30. Yours is neater than a 'skeeter! I like the bit of engraving.

I hope you have a blast with it. Those foxes have no chance now!!!

gk, I sure am proud for you. There just ain't a gun made that feels like a 94 30wcf cradled in the crook of your arm walking through the woods and fields. I know it has a good loving home now, feed it good and enjoy it.

Over here a '92 with British proofs on it would bring a premium!! I once saw a Winchester 1907 / .351 Winchester with British proofs on it
from WWI. At the time it was only going for $400. Still wish I'd been able to buy it but was just out of college and didn't have a pot to tinkle in!

Hope you have many great adventures with your new Winchester!!

That's great, Gamekeeper. My brother and I received Antique's from my dad for Christmas one year. I was hurting for money and foolishly sold mine. I have my brothers though.

Congrats, gamekeeper, that looks like an excellent example. I've often thought that it'd be neat to have both an "Antique" and a "Classic" version of the Model 94.

Good Score! For foxes and varmints I load dad's rifle with 110 grain soft point, or Hollow point bullets for the 30 carbine. You either need to add a cannelure, or use the Lee Factory Crimp die to keep the bullets in place, but they are deadly on sheep killing dogs. :o I think they would perform spectacularly on foxes.

Game Keeper congrats you won't be sorry, I've had an antique since 1965 when they first came out, done heaps of work had a full internal rebuild but still works real good, doesn't look quite as shiney as yours, special gun, was my first real gun and my mum took me to the city on a red rattler to buy it, against my dad's wishes, so I will never sell it, you must be intending to blow them foxes apart using a 30-30.
On another note my wife and daughter watch Mid Summer Murders all the time, and some times I watch just to see the beautiful old houses and the country so pretty, always feel sorry when I think what they have done to your beautiful, and makes me cranky that the queen doesn't speak up about what is happening. I always thought the queen or king what it may be was there to protect the people from the government, maybe I have it all wrong. Anyway good luck with the 30-30. From Downunder.

The previous owner cut down the stock when he fitted the recoil pad :( so I may look for a new stock with a crescent or carbine butt plate. It has to be for a post 64 or it won't fit, or so I've been told.

I have a 30-30 that was made the year my dad was born and one the year my mother was born and one that just plain interested me. I also have a model 92 in 32-20, 357mag and an action waiting to be finished. My parents are gone but when I take out the winchesters that were made when they were born I feel like they are with me.
Shucks I have one that I got just because it had a long barrel on it. It is hard to keep up with them as when I can afford to get one and find one I like I pick it up. The wife only laughs at me as I keep saying it is the last one. I think I have at least 7 levers now and don't know but what maybe more. I like them and as long as I can will collect them to pass on to my grand kids as i have two grand sons that dad just mine let me get them into shooting. The older one was only four years old when he got to fire grand dads 45 auto and dad's 40 so there is hope but dad doesn't take him out much because dad is a LEO and sees all the stuff that is going on. But he is willing for me to teach his wife, my daughter sort of, to shoot and as soon as she is used to the new baby in the house we are going to burn up some bullets at the range and she is going to be another shooter. Most likely will have to help purchase some firearms for her if she really gets into it but what the heck more time for me to be in stores selling firearms, what a way to grow old and past on something useful to the kid and grand kids.

that is why as fast as I can everyone who can and is willing is learning how to shoot and hit what you are aiming at no matter how stressed you are.
the daughter is going to learn on targets with faces because if a baddie tries to get at them they are not going to look like circles.
