Marlin and Rem. and Cerberus, what will we really see?
Remington was bought out by Cerberus, what differences have been seen since the buy out?
I do not follow Remington so I don't know.
Now supposedly Remington has bought out Marlin. Was it Remington that bought out Marlin or Cerberus using Remington as a front?
I will grant that there will be changes, but what are we likely to see?
I don't know. I have my personal opinions which I have stated, but they are just opinions, not facts.
Back to Remington, what changes have taken place so far? If any.

Cerebus is the company that bought Chrysler from Mercedes, so they have some clout.
Besides Remington, Cerebus has also bought Bushmaster and DPMS (AR-15 manufacturers).
Remington has announced of line a camouflaged AR-15s aimed at the varmint hunting market. That's the only change I'm aware of at Remington.
I know some folks think that these are dire times for Marlin, Remington and the other companies bought out by Cerebus. I see it a bit differently, they didn't invest all this money to lose money, and have a pro gun ally with deep pockets can't be a bad thing.

I don't know when Cerberus bought Remington, but Remington has done some cool things fairly recently.
The new 1100 G3 (shoots 2.75" and 3", overbored barrel, Teflon coated internal parts, etc.)
The 105CTI (bottom eject)
The 750 Woodsmaster carbine (18.5" barrel) in 35 Whelen
An AR
CoreLokt Ultra Bonded Sabots
The Model 798 Mauser action
etc., etc., etc.
Sounds to me like Marlin has stumbled into something good!

Remington has increasingly used synthetic stocks and bead blast finishes which some have criticized, particularly evident in the SPS models. The glossy blued metal finishes are seemingly being phased out. Some don't mind, while other lament the apparent lack of craftsmanship. The internet has probably blown way out proportion the number of QC errors, but some think the overall quality level at Remington is down - all in the name of cost cutting. Will the Marlin product line inherit some of these same cost cutting efforts? No one knows.
As others noted, Remington is now coming out with an AR-15 type rifle, something that I don't think would have happened without the parent company also having interest in DPMS and Bushmaster. While I don't see a Marlin AR-15 in the future (how weird would that be?), I do expect that either the low end Rem bolts or the new Marlin bolt rifle to be phased out although that might be a couple of years down the road. Killing the Rem 710/770 wouldn't be a bad thing anyway. I don't see how any other Remington technology could migrate into the Marlin line, but it's interesting to speculate. Maybe we'll see the 308 MX chambered in a bolt rifle?

Well done is better than well said.
Slim down Marlin's wood, and add models of classic styled Marlin Levers in what else - .35 Remington.
I would like to see one of those combination packages - either a classic pump rifle/carbine or a traditional styled Lever, and a S&W wheelgun, in .357 or .44 Magnums.
Remington & Marlin both need to promote their rounds (35 Rem & 444 Marlin) more.

Can't comment on all the guns but the 1100 is a 40 year old design that has been surpased by Beretta and Browning. The G3 amounts to throwing a new coat of paint on a worn out old car.Bogie35 wrote:I don't know when Cerberus bought Remington, but Remington has done some cool things fairly recently.

As for the 105 Cti, the early ones were junk and couldn't be kept running. Customers with early guns are trading them in on new production guns, but I haven't heard whether they are any better.
The one 798 I handled was nothing that would want to make me part with my $$$. Remington's line up, and their quality, is unimpressive.
