I also rented it last night. I liked it myself but my dad didn't. The sad thing is that Clint's character is identical to my dad's but different warTycer wrote:It was good. I know a guy like that.

I did the same thing -- bought it at Sam's based on all the reviews i heard on this board in a previous thread a couple of days ago , Which seemed to be 90% in favor of the movie. After i watched it, i do concede the fella who detracted it had some good points, but not enough to override the good for me .
I am very glad nobody spoiled the ending on here too !

GRAN TORINO is not particularly fact-driven --- it's a character-driven movie, and very well done, IMNSHO.

We rented it too, and liked it.
Why not a 50-state secession?

Watched it about a week ago thought it was real good, must have been good for me to sit through it, I don't normally watch anything on T V.

Loved that movie.Reminded me so much of my dad it was spookey. We have had the chief of police(friend of the family)thank god! callin me before because the old man had his M1 strapped to his back "again" because he said someone tried running him down on his mountain bike.
Now this is the absolute truth his one neighbor was this abusive guy about my age and he always yelled at his wife/etc.things like making her mow the lawn with a little push mower/but every blue moon when HE wanted to mow it he had a new rider mower he didnt let the wife use.So my old man really thought his guy was a lazy punk.Guess what he called him?and I mean would say right too him.
TOAD!!!!!!!!
My dad would call him toad like when he was yelling at his wife etc. and several times toad grabbed a shovel or rake and started coming over towards my dad.Dad would say hop toad hop/bring that shovel over here toad and see what happens.Hop toad Hop.That guy never had the sand to take on the old man.Toads wife really loved my old man,she was always baking him stuff and visiting!!!
I just got such a kick out of that movie.I told the wife the only thing with the old man, that ending would have went down differently

Walt reminds me of the old bastards in my gun club I admire so much; buy every one of 'em a cup of coffee while you can; they're going extinct way too quick!

I just got through watching this. I would put it on par with Unforgiven. Maybe better. Excellent movie by Clint. I think he's getting better with each one that he does.

I bought it at best buy as well as a David Allen Coe C.D. marked down to $3.99!
The movie is great, I too had something in my eye during the end the first time I saw It...and the second.

How many of us watched it twice? I did, and normally, I don't do that.
