Marlin 1894 "Trapper" project

Post by Streetstar »

Update on my Marlin 1894 "project".

This is a continuation of an old thread i started a couple of months ago ( http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewt ... =1&t=16633 ) when i was debating whether to have the proverbial hacksaw taken to my M94 or not ------- well, i did, after i saw a pic of Adironbackjack's carbine. Its 16.25" and now sports a saddle ring. The barrell end is cut in a recessed target crown. Magazine capacity has been reduced from 10 to 8, but 8 .44 mags is still a lot comin at ya.

Being a micro groove barrel though, it wont get any of the big boy loads unfortunately , many many people have instructed me that 240 gr or so is about max if i intend to actually hit something with any accuracy.
My wife saw a nice looking 'yote early this morning, and since i have a 9 lb. pekingnese dog to walk in the morning that i dont want to become part of the food chain , i figured i would top it off with 8 soft points. The little rifle feels "right" -- i like it, ---- the 'yote did not show its face though, but maybe next time.

Alas, i sigh when i think of how much i've sunk into this little rifle and it is not much less than a Winchester Trapper can be found for  , but now this one is mine alone and i think that is very cool ------- I might work on finding a replacement for the swingin' 70's era hooded sight set, but its not a big priority, as i dont know whether to put on something like Jacks (tang sight with soldered on front blade) or a modern sight like a ghost ring rear with a firefly front. Either one would be cool

Here's the pics -- sorry- no feet, but i did get a shadow of my head in one of them !

Looks real good. Send a picture to Marlin, if they made one I'd buy it. How's the muzzle blast?

This little carbine is now my current "go-to" rifle. I have a resident skunk among the coyotes too, and i dont any of them near the house
I shined a spotlight tonight from my backporch and was greeted with several sets of eyes -- some skunk, some possum and some coyote --- so i pumped a round into the ground 5 yards in front of me -- no more eyes  --- the little fartknockers ran for the hills -- i wish i could have seen it from a Loach or something --- (i'm a spazz and dont want to kill 'em for nothing just yet and feel sorry for them because suburban sprawl is forcing these little critters on what is left of the available land--- but if they threaten Cupcake - the gloves are off !!

this is cupcake -- the cat's name is Thomas -- he is a little bit better at fending for himself (cats are just that way in general i guess)

I agree, Thomas should be able to fend for himself; you do need to look out for Cupcake.

I like it. I have thoughts from time to time of cutting my SS 44 down to 16 1/4. There's just something about that length I like.
