Hey guys, I'm looking for some of your favorite loads using the above with 1 of the following 3 powders. 2400, W231 or W296. I'd like to use this in my Marlin 1894 and my Smith 629 6". I'd like to see around 1,200fps out of the 629.
Alliant (2400) says a MAX charge of 24grains with a 200grn Speer JHP for 1,589 fps out of a handgun. I'd cut this by 10% and try it.
Still want to hear what y'all think!
thanks,
Mike

Re: 200grn xtp in .44mag
I have used this bullet, but not those powders.
In my Super Blackhawk 9.8 grains Universal Clays was very accurate and averaged 1200 fps. This load did not shoot well in my Marlin 1894. I ended up with a big dose of H110 and the Marlin shot great. I never shot it over the chono. This was also an accurate load for the Super Blackhawk, but I prefer a little easier shooting in handguns.
I am now trying to find accurate loads in the Marlin with the 240XTP and the 265 Interlock with no success.

I use a 240 grain xtp and 20 grains of 2400 with a winchester large pistol primer. this is a max load. It shoots well in my 29-2 and my marlin 1894.
