WHAT WOULD YOU DO? 1894CS or 92SRC
I have the 1892CS by Marlin and 92SRC by Rossi, both in .357. The Marlin is in near new condition; the Rossi has been used and shows it. The Marlin forearm is bulky, the Rossi is slim. The Marlin is definitely a "nicer" gun; the Rossi has a lot of character. I'm thinking of "thinning the herd" but can't decide which one to let go. Any suggestions?

I'm sure the fellas here could draw straws or mebbe take turns holdin' them fer ya.
If we took turns, and each of us only kept ONE of them for just a month, surely it wouldn't cost any of us TOO much, and we'd be happy to bear that cost for you. Guns can be expensive to room and board...

Set them both aside for a couple of days, then go to pick up one. Which one is it?? Keep that one and sell the other to one of us.

You guys are right. It's like trying to decide what child you want to get rid of. I'm probably gonna keep 'em both. But, I probably should get rid of one............just can't. They shoot the same cartridge but they're totally different guns, and both are sweet in their own way. The Marlin is nice and the Taurus just feels good.

Young man, let me explain somethin' to 'ya. One time about 25 years ago, I was telling my Dad that I was going to sell a gun. He said, "Its better to suffer and keep it, besides, what are going to do, pay some stupid insurance bill with it"

One of the reasons I've invested heavily in firearms and reloading supplies since January 20th has been to hedge my bets. I can't afford to buy precious metals. I can afford firearms. They will provide me with food and protection. And when the guy with gold needs a firearm, I can sell one if need be for a hefty price.Babalooie wrote:You guys are right. I sold 18 guns once to pay some family medical bills, it took a long time to get them replaced.
Eventhough I still had plenty left, I buy each gun for a reason and found I missed the "unity of the group".

just set them up for two different things, then you'll need both.
I have a .357 set up with a scope for the indoor range and another with a tang sight for silhouette. They also like different loads.

Mr. Murbach is absolutely right. It's a proven fact that leverguns are happiest in a herd. But if You have to let one go the Rossi would get the axe before a Marlin but it'd be a tough choice to let any of the chillin's go.

I will pick cans/nuts/scrap metal before selling my guns if it ever came to that.
I know its tough but try to find another way!

Re: WHAT WOULD YOU DO? 1894CS or 92SRC
Theoretically, the Marlin can do about anything the Rossi can - if you thin down the stock some, it really can be just as 'handy' - or trade for the carbine instead of the 'cowboy' version. You can use factory/open sights, peeps, scout scope, regular scope, or tang sights all very easily.SmokeEater2 wrote: Mr. Murbach is absolutely right. The Rossi, on the other hand, is light and handy, but couldn't approach the sighting options available with the Marlin.
So...if you really feel the need to consolidate, consider trading BOTH for a CARBINE Marlin .357, and some spare cash for dies or ammo.

If you do decide to sell one, sell the Marlin. Right now it's a sellers market if you have a Marlin 1894 carbine in 357mag. None of the distibutor have any on the shelf. Some 44mags but no 357's.
This used one will sell for more than $570.

Ditto, I sold a couple of guns once... and took far more than I sold them for to replace them. I have traded a couple... but hey! I got a fine wife, a "new-to-me-couch", a levergun and TWO new holsters! So far, so good, I still have the wife, levergun and now, not so new holsters.Ysabel Kid wrote:I try to keep the flow going in one direction only - with guns coming in, not going out!

If you absolutely have to sell one off, keep the Marlin. They're hard to come by now, but Marlin is making another run of them as we speak. I lucked into mine some weeks ago for $525 NIB.
Re: WHAT WOULD YOU DO? 1894CS or 92SRC
well, it has become a very simple solution. I'm keeping both and selling a couple of pistolas instead. Actually, a revolver and pistol - both S&W's.
Re: WHAT WOULD YOU DO? 1894CS or 92SRC
I got rid of half my firearms once to please the wife at the time and she rewarded my with divorce papers a few years later and I lost the rest. I lost some very nice old firearms that I can't even find or afford anymore.
My current wife has let me get a lot of firearms to replace what I lost and I will never give them up again unless I am dead.

If that had been me, that wife would be down the road, walking the dog, out of the car.
Re: WHAT WOULD YOU DO? 1894CS or 92SRC
She is gone only cost me two years of my life and a big part of my pension and almost $40,000 in legal costs. Lost the house and a lot of my stuff in the deal too but she is gone and I am so much better off now.

Earn some money to please your wife, learn to give good back rubs to please your wife, share in the household chores to please your wife, cancel your Playboy subscription to please your wife, move to a different school district to please your wife, learn to like buying jewelry to please your wife, but NEVER 'sell your guns' to please your wife...! What on earth was she trying to accomplish?shdwlkr wrote:I got rid of half my firearms once to please the wife...

She was getting ready to take everything I had and the courts gave her most of my stuff when she finally did go for the divorce. Should have known she was a gold digger but was to stupid to realize it. Some women are just plain bad news and I didn't read the whole paper soon enough.
The wife I have now has her passions and I have mine and we do share some time together and soon we will both have our ccw's hopefully. Just goes to show that there are some good women out there. You just have to find them.
IF I loose this wife I am done with women as I am to old to loose everything and start over again. I also don't think I could ever find a better person to grow old with then the wife I have now. We have one parent left and we spoil her rotten every time we get a chance and are having a blast doing it. Between us we have 20 kids that have gone through our house or are still there. I will be almost 80 when the last kids leave and we will still have one at home because of issues with her health but she is a fun kid.
