Re: Longhorn Steer
NICE, but just my personal opinion, I would hate to be an 8 year old steer!

Gun Control is not about guns, it is about control!
Re: Longhorn Steer
Nice. A rancher near me had 10 or 12 LongHorns. Were interesting to watch. I understand there is a movement underway to restore the breed to their habitats. Never messed with them. One place I worked was give a herd of Scottish cattle, big furry critters, a family had bred and raised them then had to let them go when they had to move. I rather like the old breeds and I am glad there is some effort being made to keep them going. Of course those horns would make great powder horns as well. I understand at one time military ships did use such sized horns to carry their gun powder securely and dry. Don't know which breed they used. ATB

He works good as a indicator bull for cows that are cycling and need AIed. Life is easy for him, he eats, sleeps and likes to rip the haylage bags with his horns. danny

Thanks for the great pictures Danny. What time I've worked cows I never worked with any Longhorns. A man would sure have to swing a wide loop to catch one of them critters.

Re: Longhorn Steer
A beautiful animal, but watch those horns.
My cousin in OK has a herd of longhorns and was gored and nearly killed by his "pet" breeding bull.
Getting careless or too casual around breeding males can be dangerous.

My wife's cousin got his eye put out by a cow that was just plain ornery! He turned his back on her while shutting a gate. She didn't even have a calve with her.

pokey thanks for the great roping pictures. That is what I call swinging a wide loop. Do you rope with them? How long are the ropes? Most team ropers around here use 28 foot ropes, they must be at least 40 foot ropes.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit it (Being where I am and from 'n such) but we don't have any horns on the place. And it's on purpose. I've had a bull or two upset at me and being mossy eared was a good thing.

those boys carry 60' riatas , gotta be narrow 5/16s or so if nylon.
quite a few use braided rawhide, anyway you cut it, it's a handful.
the loops they use on the bigloop horse roping are a measured 20',
just the loop. i have given up what little rodeo i did. i seem to run
out of hours trying to keep up with things around here and my son's
scouting/sports. i try to get over to that side of the mountains to
watch and visit once in a while though.
