Need some advice from the experts, please

Post by S.B. »

I have a 3rd generation Colt SAA that I would like to have a better trigger on. Who does trigger/action jobs on Colt SAAs?
TIA, Steve

Steve Young, aka Nate Kiowa Jones. He's a sponsor of this forum. http:/www.stevesgunz.com/

Jim Alaimo, Nutmeg Sports. http:/www.nutmegsports.com/

Those are two off the top of my head.

One thing you may want to try first is a lighter hammer spring.Won't smooth the action but usually improves the trigger. There's also the old trick of using a piece of leather under the hammer spring where it screws into the trigger guard. That can improve the trigger.

Do not use the leather, it can absorb moisture and rust the interior of the piece. Small discs or washers is what is used.

If we knew your location, we might be able to suggest a Smith in your area. Because of the popularity of Cowboy Action Shooting there are many across the country.

Sorry, I thought it was in my profile. Central Illinois. Not the first time, I've been wrong.

Are you guys sure Steve Young works on these things? I searched his website and can't find anything on Colt SAAs or prices for a trigger job? Now Nutmeg sure has an interesting site, I could spend 5 years wages on some of the work there, if I could afford it? And he's factory authorized! Steve's site talks a lot about Rossi's and other foriegn guns but, doesn't mention much about American guns?
I'ver narrowed my choice down to two that I know of and will make a decision based on that and past work I've had done?
Thanks, Steve

S.B.,

What part of central IL? This is a pretty big state.

Yes NKJ works on single actions. He specializes in cowboy action guns - all of them.

Contact him.

By the way if you wanna get together and compare notes I have two gunsmiths here in central IL I will tell you NOT to go to. I won't say it on the open forum though. PM or email me if want to know who they are and my experiences with them.

We might also get together and go burn some powder if you want.
