OT - CCI Primers
I just saw a story about CCI on the TV show "How it's Made" and they said CCI makes four million 22 rounds per day. That said I wonder why they haven't caught up with the primer situation. I couldn't believe the round count.

Did you know that 1.5 BILLION rounds were sold in December 2008? CCI makes 1 million primers a production day.

Don't forget that the primers CCI makes also have to go in the Speer ammo they make there as well.

Re: OT - CCI Primers
I haven't done the math so I don't know how many rounds CCI makes in a month, but at 4 million a day it's got to be plenty. Plus, they aren't the only ones making ammo 22 ammo. My quick guestimation puts CCI making 80 million plus rounds of 22 ammo a month. So if we're talking 1.5 billion rounds of 22 ammo sold in Dec. of '08, CCI made over half of it.

Re: OT - CCI Primers
4,000,000 rounds a day equates to:
28,000,000 rounds a week
120,000,00 rounds a month (30 day month)
1,440,000,000 rounds a year (1.44 Billion)
Or, thinking it through the other way...
166,666 rounds an hour
2,777 rounds a minute
46 rounds a second
This is, assuming, they run 3 shifts 24/7/365, which given the demand, I have to believe they are indeed doing.
1.5B rounds sound in December 2008 equates roughly to CCI's total annual production. In other words, CCI produced about 8% of the total .22LR rounds sold in December 2008.
Impressive, any way you look at it!

That 1.5 billion was all ammo. Sorry for the misunderstanding.kimwcook wrote:I haven't done the math so I don't know how many rounds CCI makes in a month, but at 4 million a day it's got to be plenty. BTW, if that trend continued (and it seems to have done so around here), there is approximately 7.5 BILLION rounds of ammo in circulation today that might not have been but for the POTUS.
PS - I have been told that the Army is recycling ammo cans (concerted effort, not the usual methodology) which is why they aren't showing up as much as they used to.

Re: OT - CCI Primers
Fortunately I have about 5 ammo cans that I keep my ammo in when I reload. I have an additional can to keep my primers stored in. .50 cal cans seem to be inadequate these days, sure wish I could get some 20mm cans.

I prefer the 50 cans and yes, they are getting hard to find in good condition and at a reasonable price.

Looks like ya need to shim the starboard side a bit more. You'll need the mother of all pry bars or off load the shelves. Big job...
