BigSky56, it measures 3 1/2 from the forearm. I would call it half Magazine.
Pokey, Here is the back of that holster.
I have more photos of the small stuff but I will not bore you with them now. I have been collecting for 42 years. I think I could fill a 3 car garage top to bottom with all the items that have passed through my hands. I will put a few on later this week. I appreciate the comments.

Re: Part of my "Old West" collection.
I'd be willing to bet that, much like just about everyone else that grew up ranching or with horses, he didn't plan to "collect" it, so much as he just accumulated it.
BTW, I'm trying like hell to recall where I have a set of bib style spur straps I'd be willing to sacrifice to make a holster like that. If I made new ones, it just wouldn't look right! I think I've found a new use for retired spurstraps......

Travis,
Thanks for putting both of those pics together. I just saved the to the HD.
rangerider,
Could you take two more pics of that holster for us? Open the flap and take out the pistola then with the flap open take a front and back view. Purty please.
I'm normally a minimalist when it comes to holsters but this one fascinates me.

Make it a 4 3/4" barrel. My wife just told me we were out of checks so I suspect we are out of money too. We ain't got our Obmanation stimulus check yet.

Re: Part of my "Old West" collection.
rangerider7,
Thanks for posting this for me.
Now I have three questions and I think that should do it.
A: What length barrel is this holster made for. Kinda looks like a 5.5" but I'm not sure.
B: At the top where the holster and back part come together, is this one piece of leather folded over then stitched and tooled, or two pieces of leather? That's the one thing I can't tell from the pics.
C: The flap looks like it has two rivets; a rivet holding it to the back piece and the holster piece as well. Am I seeing this right?
Joe

Re: Part of my "Old West" collection.
J Miller, Your right it is for a 5.5 Colt SAA. The holster itself is a fold over then stitched; then another, smooth side out, piece is stitched on to the full back with the cut for the flap put in. The rivet Only goes through the back two pieces. This way you can pull the holster out of the double loops. The rivet you are seeing is to re-enforce the holster around the trigger guard. There is also a rivet at the bottom which re-enforces the pressure of the barrel pushing on the stitching. This is a fine made holster and I have never seen one like it. Good Luck and let us see you end product if you make one. I hope I made myself clear, if not ask again, no problem.

Thanks for the info. I doubt I'll try to make one myself, although I might. I was thinking of one of the holster makers that are members here. I don't have any leather tools and there are no Tandys anywhere near me.

Re: Part of my "Old West" collection.
Take a saddle string, cut one end at a long slant, so it's pointy. Take the other end, fold it over twice, nice and tight, then punch a hole through it. Take the pointy end, run it through the hole, and pull tight. Ta-da!
In the case of the knot on this holster, the pointy tail end was run through a coupla holes on the holster, most likely, then back through the knot.
