Re: OT: Got my first Colt SAA First Generation
Congrats on a beautiful pistol. I just picked up a Schofield in .45 S&W and I am pleased, but not as pleased as I am with my Colt SAA. Mine sports a 4 3/4 inch barrel. Yours is one wonderful pistol though!!! Thanks for sharing .

Re: OT: Got my first Colt SAA First Generation
The thing that makes me smile is that a lot of these old six guns from the Old West are now working guns in the Canadian wilderness in the 21st century. The cowboy back in 1873, now long dead and gone, would have found it hard to believe the day he purchased that 2nd Model American in 44 Russian (the other six gun with the 8" barrel in the photo in my first post in this thread) and walked out of the store with it strapped on, that in the 21st century, that very gun would be doing duty in the Canadian northern wilderness. I know several fellows up here who pack vintage sixguns like the Remington 1875, the Colt SAA (re-chambered) and the S&W 44 Russian top breaks in the bush. It's too bad that government bureaucrats think they make the world safer by disarming normal folks while the gang members pack the latest MAC-10's regardless of whatever laws people think will make them behave.Old Ironsights wrote:jd45 wrote:By mandating that the gun use an OBSOLETE cartridge rather than a commonly available one, it makes it so that only Rich Collectors and dedicated Gun Cranks get to actually have useable firearms.
No normal Joe will be protecting himself from Goblin or Government with a .44 Russian or .45 Schofield...

The really sad thing about the situation is that they would much rather prosecute the poor fella who is in possession of an old gun of an "outlaw" caliber that the gang bangers who pack the MAC-10s
. They gots there rights, 'ya know.

Plus, the feller with the antique is easier to catch and isn't as likely to shoot back...Mike D. wrote:The really sad thing about the situation is that they would much rather prosecute the poor fella who is in possession of an old gun of an "outlaw" caliber that the gang bangers who pack the MAC-10s. Can't go about risking cops in the quest to catch criminals. Catch what's easy...

Kirk,
do you have to have a permit or some special carry card to have a pistol on you in the wilderness?

For any handgun except an antique, one needs a permit to carry in the wilderness, and those permits are about as easy to get as finding the Holy Grail or the Fountain of Youth.rjohns94 wrote:Kirk,

Antique six guns, on the other hand, do not need to be registered and they do not need a permit. They can be carried and shot anywhere a normal rifle can be shot.

Re: OT: Got my first Colt SAA First Generation
I don't want to get political, but the gangs are not likely to try to take down the government, whereas the law-abiding citizen may very well get pushed to that point. The government therefore won't go after the gangs but will put the screws to the citizen. The Law of Unintended Consequences will eventually bite them, though (I hope). If that's too close to politics, please delete it...Mike D. wrote:The really sad thing about the situation is that they would much rather prosecute the poor fella who is in possession of an old gun of an "outlaw" caliber than the gang bangers who pack the MAC-10s

Kirk, I remember when you told me about your purchase. Sure proud that you now have it in your hand to enjoy. I bought my Colt SAA 5 1/2 inch .45 in 1959,it was made in 1957,only had 12 rounds through it then. You will sue enjoy the feel of it in a good crossdraw on your left side.
I have loaded mine with Unique since 1960,it works good.
After three weeks I got my computer back from the shop again, hope this does it for a while.
