OT VIDEO More Fun with the 470 NITRO
Went out to the farm yesterday and did some shooting. My brother had a new video camera he was playing with too. He took this video of me blowing up some water filled milk jugs with the 470 Nitro. I've shot a bunch of milk jugs with 30-30s, 270s, and even a 338 Win Mag. None of those came close to the explosion created by these big flat nose 470 slugs. It was neat to watch the jugs turn into a 20 foot cloud of fine mist. I've got to shoot a critter with this thing soon!
I apologize for the poor quality of the video, and the audio got out of sync somehow during the converting process.

That thing is just beggin' for a hunting trip.
Re: OT VIDEO More Fun with the 470 NITRO
I'm thinking that a deer will do the same thing those milk bottles did, just vaporize. Perhaps you could help recover some of the tax money on that baby by renting it.

Looks like I should have heard it from here.
There has to be some joke in here somewhere about shooting milk jugs with a gun that costs as much as that ol' krieg'n'boomer.

I'm impressed with your shooting ability Ted. That really is GREAT shooting, those jugs are pretty small, looks like open sights and HEAVY recoil. Good job! 2 for 2 under pressure! Of course with cartridges $5 a piece, you dare not miss!!! HA
Also liked the sound of those rounds going into the chambers. IMPRESSIVE!!

I watched that twice just to see the rounds drop in the chambers. WOW!

You got that right! Though I don't see it making it to Africa anytime in the foreseeable future, maybe I can see what's the biggest, meanest critter 86'er can come up with and be happy with a hunt like that.

Yep, they're a pretty substantial cartridge. Here's a comparison with a .223 and a 45-70.Rusty wrote:I watched that twice just to see the rounds drop in the chambers. WOW!

Maybe you should try that on a Bison or a Nilgai and see if it will knock one over.

I'd love to, but I'm sure they're out of my price range, at least for now. Likely have to settle for a hog or deer first.

Gday TedH
There was a thread a few weeks ago asking what was the most under appreciated cartridge. I chimmed in with the 500 Nitro Express, looks like some of you guys have taken it onboard, the 470 is a cracker too. But the 500 shades it, but not by too much. Large pigs with the 500, cant get any deader than dead. Would love to have taken a Northern Territory Buffaloe with it, but never got the opportunity, have no reason to believe it would have failed, its accounted for plenty of Africas most dangerous. Will more than handle anything North America can put in front of the sights. Enjoy, they are great to shoot, wish I still had my 500 though. Dont let it get away from you, you will regret it the rest of your life.

GUN CONTROL IS HITTING YOUR TARGET
Re: OT VIDEO More Fun with the 470 NITRO
Funny you should say that. I was very lucky to have become the owner of this rifle. There was a time when I was not sure I would be able to keep it, and will readily admit that it caused some turmoil with my wife when I did decide to keep it. The main reason I do have it still was many of the fellows here saying the same thing you did. Once it was gone, I would never have another.the telegraphist wrote: Dont let it get away from you, you will regret it the rest of your life.
