Just got back from taking a stroll through my local Gander Mountain store.
Never in my life have I seen ammunition shelves that empty.
And the few boxes left are astronomically priced.
Not sure why, but I experienced a slight wave of fear when I saw this.
Had that “something is way wrong with this picture” feeling all over it.
Our local Gander Mountain is getting more supplies in, although I can't say they ever had 'good' prices - a local place called "Bradis" has stocked up again with LOTS of the major cartridges - 9mm, .45 ACP, .40, .223, .308, .7.62x39, etc., at fairly reasonable prices. Much of it is brass/boxer, and even US manufacture!

What do you know about this?

I have been seriously stocking up for a few years, now - since the Clinton era; and especially since the current President started showing promise of moving into the White House. I'm sure happy that I did, since the components could now bring a heck of a lot more return than my modest retirement investments; or even my greenbacks.
We may have to deal with an embargo on shipping any hazardous material via postal or deliver services - another logical step in stemming the flow of firearms and ammunition. Should things deterioriate further, I plan to network with family / close friends' shopping needs to share the gas expenses and drive directly to larger suppliers of reloading components, such as various places in Nevada, or to some warehouses in my state, as needed. It may come to that.
When the economy went south and the government took steps to "nationalize" the banks, I mentioned to someone that the precedent had been set for them to nationalize any industry they deemed vital to "national security" to solely supply government agencies at the exclusion of private citizens. This would include firearms and ammunition manufactures. I was told I was nuts.
The growing mantra of "violence in Mexico" as it pertains to "national security" and the AG's view on this problem makes my theory that much more plausible. But what do I know... I'm just a mushroom.
My friends that work in the local Walmart told me the other day that there is a 'shortage' of ammo because of the few people that keep stopping by and buying everything they have.
In other words (and in their opinion) the horders are causing their own shortage!

Remember the TP shortage? But seriously, hoarders will hoard (and I am one) it is only that so many have become such now because of the current political circumstance without increased production that we have a shortage. Demand is dropping, slowly, as the hoarders run out of money. What is slowing the rate of decrease in sales is NEW hoarders coming into the market.

Yep, the local Wally World's ammo case is 90% empty, and has been since 2 weeks before the election. They get stuff in and it goes out the same day. I check every time I pass the place because they aren't overcharging - a brick on Winchester X-Pert .22's are still only $12.97 when they have them in.
Ammo, primers and powder were flying out on handcarts by the case at the last gun show I attended. You could smell the fear in the air!
Same as it ever was around here. I don't know about the rest of Northern New England, but the wife and I will be stopping at the Cabelas in Scarboro, ME after our wedding next weekend. I might post the situation, though I'm not sure I want the hoarders seeking out new territory
