Well,I went and looked at the pump on the Henry site and I've got to say that's a nice looking rifle.

Re: HENRY 22 magnum
I handled a used one with Octagon barrel at a gunshow last week. Seemed solid. It was either drilled and tapped or groved for scopes, can't remember which. Much bigger than the Taurus's and old Remingtons and Winchesters. More of a full sized rifle but not quite. The biggest problem i have with pumps vs. levers is the lack of ability to cycle the action when using a rest of any sort.

Not a problem on a rest. Hold the forend in your hand and push/pull the rifle. If you can't hold the forend in your hand you can most times still push/pull the rifle to cycle it.L_Kilkenny wrote:I handled a used one with Octagon barrel at a gunshow last week. Seemed solid. You're right, that pump is one fine looking rifle. I've been looking at them for some time. I was kind of balking because of the suggested retail price, but I have to admit after watching the 1 hour video on their web site I think it's worth it now.
Before it's over I think I'll have more than one Henry though.

Re: HENRY 22 magnum
I have the Henry pump and large lever carbine in .22LR. I like them both. The pump is a fun and accurate, and I like it better than the Taurus pump I have. I don't think you can go wrong with either, and I think you will get a lot of enjoyment out of either of them. If you have any specific question, ask, and I'll pull the rifle out of the safe and answer the best I can.

I've hear that the frame on the Henry is a little bit bigger than the Taurus can you confirm or deny that?

It is, I will try and pull them both out of the safe tonight and take a pic of them side by side, I think that will probably answer the question of size best. I have the Taurus in 17HMR, the Henry in 22LR.

Thanks Carl, they don't seem to be anything like one another. Those pumps sure are handy. Very little movements is required at all to make 'em work.

Re: HENRY 22 magnum
Yep, pumps and levers are my favorites, probably followed by the break action single shots.
If you look at the top two pics, you can see the distance needed to work the action on the two rifles (actually the Taurus is the carbine model). The Henry has a shorter movement. Also, the Henry is the easier of the two to pump, the action on the Taurus needs more force to open.
That said, they are both really fun to shoot, and both are very accurate, I have used both to walk and shoot ground squirrels out in the desert hills here.

Nice guns Carl. Mind telling us where those Desert Hills are that you walk through and shoot squirrels? Ya don't have to be exact -- just enough to give us a better picture. Thanks. I live in the High Desert of CA. You can check out where under my Avatar.
Re: HENRY 22 magnum
I thought I had my profile setup at one time. No problem at all, I am in SW Idaho, about 30miles north of Boise. Lots of BLM land, and most of the ground squirrels are predators around here (we do have an area a little NW of here where there are some considered endangered).

Yep, those squirreld are pests. They do a lot of damage to farm equipment. We shoot em by the thousands here in my area.
