Mounted a Willams Foolproof on my Browning 86

Post by Les Staley »

I've been trying to get up the nerve to tackle this project for quite a while.. too cold to play outside yesterday, so... complete disassembly.. sure is different from the 92.. more stuff in there.. got her stripped and in the vise on the mill.. located where the sight wanted to be, and drilled and tapped two holes, 6-48.. took most of the day to get her back together.. sighted in. happy and relieved.. Bears, LOOK OUT!!... Les

Good work. That is a great upgrade. The sights on a Browning SRC are in my opinion useless (And I can still see to use open sights :)). I have the same rifle and have threatened to do the same thing for 2 winters now. I have decided to sell mine instead. Good luck with your new improved browning.

Hey Les, good job. Where you at, I got few lever guns that need drilled and tapped.

J Miller: Wyoming, between Big Piney and Daniel.. come on out, do an elk or antelope hunt and we'll tackle some of those leverguns after supper...What made this a better rifle even before the Williams, was a dime.... yes, a silver dime , cut out a front sight an filed it just thin enough to fit in the front sight block, pinned it and you've got a sight that shows up... even the right height for the Foolproof... You'll be VERY pleased (all the more so because you did the work). Those rifles SHOOT!
