I really like the idea of Winchester's large loop lever when the weather turns cold and I have to wear thick gloves. My Win 94 (30-30) Wrangler (16" bbl) has such a lever but my Win 94 (307) doesn't and it's the one I use for hunting. I've exchanged levers (not a difficult task) and everything seems to work fine in both rifles with regard to the transfer of rounds from mag to chamber but, I haven't yet given the exchange the ultimate test - firing. I thought it best to seek expert advice first. Are there any safety or mechanical issues with such a modification?

There shouldn't be.
"People who object to weapons aren't abolishing violence, they're begging for rule by brute force, when the biggest, strongest animals among men were always automatically 'right.' Guns ended that, and social democracy is a hollow farce without an armed populace to make it work."

Does it work ok? Should be no problem. If it works,it works.

I've transferred mine from a Trapper to a 30-30 Ranger and 24" Legacy.
It works fine on all of them and you shouldn't have any problems.

Re: Large Loop Lever Exchange??
The swap over in a 94 is pretty straight forward. Most of the late models are so lose there is usually very little fitting if any required. If you reload make up some dummy rounds and cycle them through. If it will do that without jamming and the lever comes all the way up you should be good to go.
The rossi 92's on the other hand can be a pain. The lever usually drops in but some won't clear the loading gate to load, the firing pins sometimes bind in the fork in the top of the lever, the J hook part of the lever hits the cart stop on the carrier and the loops don't always fit to the lower tang.

Re: Large Loop Lever Exchange??
Thanks so much folks. I have just returned from the shooting range after putting 18 rounds through my 307 with the 30-30's large loop lever fitted and 12 rounds through my 30-30 with the 307's original lever fitted. Everything went extremely well as I experienced no problems whatsoever. I found cycling the loop lever required somewhat less effort and was ideal while wearing gloves. The loop lever is now a permanent feature on my 307. Confidence in ones rifle is not everything, it's the only thing.
Thanks again,
Monty
