It's that time of year - forum fundraiser

Post by AmBraCol »

Well guys, we've finished our first year on the new forum and the bill's coming due soon. Thank you all who gave last year to provide this space where we all can meet and hang out and exchange info, male bovine excrement and general good will. This group of guys is one of the best groups on the 'net and I know that I speak for the other moderators/administrators when I say "Thank you for making this a great place to hang one's @". Anyway, with this e-mail we'll start off the yearly funding drive. Suggested donation is $10 but if you can't chip in that much it's OK. A small percentage of the folks picked up the majority of the cost last year, providing amongst many the funds necessary to provide the bandwidth and storage necessary for the forum to function properly. So if you'd like to chip in to this year's pot here's the info.

You can send a PayPal payment via http://www.paypal.com to webservant@levergunscommunity.com. This is the easiest and most convenient way to send funds - and you don't have to have an account with them to send a donation. Just go to the website above, click on "Send money" and follow the instructions. For all their (many) faults, PayPal is a secure site and I've personally never had a security breach in all the years I've had an account with them.

However, we also recognize that some have objections to using this means of contributions. That's fine. You can send a personal check made out to Paul Moreland to:

Paul Moreland
C/O Mark Moreland
1325 Chestnut Street
Webb City, MO
64870

Last year some folks complained at not getting a chance to chip into the pot. We'll be leaving this thread open for a couple of weeks. On or around January 21 we'll be locking it and allowing it to work its way down the page and out of circulation so you've got two weeks to respond. :)

Again, thanks for making this the premier leverguns/shooting sports/BS/Politics/Ad infinitum website on the internet!

A question has been raised as to the funds that were a result of the levergun hunt auctions back in February and August. Those funds were sent to Paco to fund http://www.leverguns.com - the website that gave birth to this forum. Since the demise of the "Old Forum" and the transfer to this new venue, this forum has been funded by voluntary contributions of the members who desire/are able to help provide for the running of the site. The funds raised each January go towards paying the storage and bandwidth needs of the forum itself. The funds raised by the auctions go to fund the hosting of the leverguns.com site - which is a wealth of knowledge that we'd hate to lose like we lost sixgunner.com. We thank each and every one of you who has participated in various ways to keep both the website and the forum up and running. If there are further questions I'll be glad to field them to the best of my ability/knowledge. Just drop me a private message via the forum or an e-mail to Image

No you don't. Then Big Brother would want to dictate the content.

OH NO - I turned this one into a political post!!! Hobie's going to kill me!!!

Oh, by the way, I need to learn to read a bit more carefully. Thought you suggested $10 per post, and darn near had "the big one"! I will go to Pay-Pal and pinch my nose right away (and get the same chuckle that despite their knuckle-head policies, they are supporting firearms! ).

Thanks Paul!!! :D

Well, if you INSIST we'll accept the $64,490 - then we'll set up a dedicated server with all the bells and whistles with a terrabyte of space and about 20 gigabytes of RAM and be able to host it even for a few years. THAT would make for one zippy forum with plenty of space for a gallery and everything. :) Well, that's if you INSIST on sending us the $10 per post...

Thanks to all who have donated so far. We're close to a 1/3 of the way towards what we need - based on paypal contributions alone. Still waiting for the USPS to deliver the "checks in the mail" - I'll update next weekend sometime once I get back from a week long convention. Thanks to all who are helping towards providing a better platform to host the forum on!

Guys - listen up. David Fagan has given me some options to improve the hosting of the site at a lower cost than I'd projected. I'm still studying the options and it will be at least a week before I'll get a chance to finalize things enough to know for sure about the cost. So please hold off for now on any more donations. With what's been pledged in the mail and what's come in via PayPal I believe we may have it covered at this time. So let's let it sit this week and I'll give you an update by Monday, January 19th as to whether we've reached the goal. By that time I should know what's been put in the mail so far and add it to the PayPal and figure out what option we'll be going with. Remember, this is just for hosting the site. The info, software, usernames, passwords, etc will be the same. We're just looking for a more stable/faster environment to run it all on. Thanks for your contributions and assistance in making this the premier leverguns community site on the internet!
