"Lonesome Dove" Latin?

Does anyone know the English translation of what was written on Gus's grave? Just watched it again from a new DVD ( $10 from the great WALL of china Mart). I think it is Latin, " uva uvam vivendo varia fit".
Been to several online translation sites with little luck.
Anyone have a translation or link or other sugestions?

That was a neat site. I for one would like to strap on Gus's Dragoon and belt just once!

Nice to know what the phrase finally means too....that had bothered me.

I really like that Dragoon too. One of my favorite scenes in the movie is when Gus whacked the bartender in the head with it.

Was that a Dragoon, or a Walker? I thaught it was a Walker?

It's been a while since I've seen the movie and I can't recall which it was from the movie, but on the website linked to above they call it a Dragoon. However, in the picture of it in the holster you can barely make out the end of the loading lever and it looks like a Walker to me. Tapered with no latch.

I believe in the book it was a Dragoon Colt. In the movie, it's a Walker converted to fire metallic cartridges(no nipples that I can see). Now, I'm tired and I think that is the way it was, but me brain may have it backwards.

Thanks for the link--I'd always wondered what that Latin meant, and thought curious that in the book, another character (can't remember his name) read the sign and laughed out loud, but never said why. Maybe he was laughing at "We don't rent pigs."

As I recall, in the book Gus carried a Walker Colt. But, my memory could be faulty.

darn, I thought it was, "Beans make you fanny burp", but now that I think about it, that was Faye Dunaway to Stacy Keach in "Doc", (Holliday, that is) jd45
