About the server hickup this morning...

I'm not sure what happened but thanks to David Fagan for getting us up and running again. We're looking into options for moving the forum onto a different server. That would give us better reliability and less downtime. It depends on the available funds. Right now, just from PayPal, we're about 1/3 of the way towards a virtual private server and we don't know what is in the mail. We'll keep y'all up to date as possible. I'll be out of town this week at a convention so won't be able to update until next weekend or so. Anyway, the Lord willing we'll get things moving when I return to see what we can do to improve the reliability of the forum. Thanks to all who have chipped in and who are chipping in to make it happen.

On a side note - if we DO get a virtual private server, we'll have plenty of space for the forum and maybe some more on the side. I'd like to ask y'all to twist Hobie's arm so's he'll accept hosting for "Lady Liberty Defended" along with a domain name and everything. I think it's the least we can do for him - he does all the heavy lifting in the moderation department.

What is "Lady Liberty Defended?"...knowing Hobie's reasonable way of expressing his uncompromising Second Amendment views, if it has anything to do with that, I'm in! (I'm uncompromising, yet don't manage to appear 'reasonable' sometimes , and some of the other 'reasonable' voices out there have been compromising and got us where we are. )

Well, it's going into the kitty along with the others. Still, I sure hope you'll accept our offer of a site dedicated to your blog. All I need is for you to register the domain name (http://www.godaddy.com is a great place to start) and then we can work on transferring your site to it. I'm not sure on the details, but I'm sure it's doable. David Fagan's working with me to make sure we upgrade to the best option for the forum and we will have plenty of space available for the blog as well. It's the least we can do! I just checked and your domain name (if you base it on the blog name) is wide open and available!!!

Guys - listen up. David Fagan has given me some options to improve the hosting of the site at a lower cost than I'd projected. I'm still studying the options and it will be at least a week before I'll get a chance to finalize things enough to know for sure about the cost. So please hold off for now on any more donations. With what's been pledged in the mail and what's come in via PayPal I believe we may have it covered at this time. So let's let it sit this week and I'll give you an update by Monday, January 19th as to whether we've reached the goal. By that time I should know what's been put in the mail so far and add it to the PayPal and figure out what option we'll be going with. Remember, this is just for hosting the site. The info, software, usernames, passwords, etc will be the same. We're just looking for a more stable/faster environment to run it all on. Thanks for your contributions and assistance in making this the premier leverguns community site on the internet!

Actually, I was on the site when it went down. I had read a thread, hit the back button and all I got was a blank screen with the word "Done" at the bottom of the screen.

I said to myself, "Cool, I finally contributed to the forum this year and they evidently took my money and went on vacation".
