Hamming it up with Marlin, Colt

Yours truly in the summer of '65 with my Model 1893 SRC in 38-55, and my nickel-plated Colt SAA (what you young fellows call a Second Generation gun) in 38 Special x 7-1/2". Notice I carefully removed my watch, but left the ballpoint pen in place.
My God, I had hair then!

Summer of 1965, I had just turned 2 years old. But I remember my dad got a brand new Dodge 3/4 ton pickup that year, my cousin later rolled it but I've still got the remnant and with help of another parts truck we are making one good truck out of 2.

Things were great back then! Like Don Williams sings, "there wasn't anywhere a boy couldn't go with a .22 rifle and a fishing pole."

Also notice the pic is black and white. All of our family pictures from the early 60's were also B&W.

The shot was taken at my folks' camp on Wildcat Mountain in Ulster County, New York. Ma and Dad bought the place - cabin and 40 acres for $2,500 (!) - the summer of 1950, and Ma sold it in Ocrober of 1997. At about 2,200 ft elevation, never had electricity, and water was gravity-feed from a spring. Last quarter of a mile to the cabin was a right of way, and took some fancy vehicle handling in the Spring and Winter .Had some really good times there, and my Dad got to see our five older kids have fun there, too.
A king's ransom worth of ammunition in a wide variety of calibers got burned up there; Archaeologists will have a field day
finding cases and bullets a century or so down the road.
Jeans don't fold like they used to, do they? When I was a young buck, Levi's cost $3.95 a pair, weighed about four pounds, shrank, turned everything in the washing machine blue, never wore out and - for a short guy like me - took a nice fold!
How that Colt came to be a 38 special is a sort of interesting story, but I'll leave that for another time. And the 38-55
has hunting story to tell, too...

You could carry a lot of neat and useful things in those cuffs, if you had a mind to. You just had to make sure you removed them before your mom washed them.

Thanks for sharing, man! It seems like yesterday we were free and happy go lucky. In 65 I was just getting married and starting out on a wounderful life trip, God willing it will last a few more, but things will never be like they were then.
