Guns vs. Computers
After spending weeks on the phone, many miles driving to pick up (and return) equipment, and arranging for "installation" several times, we may FINALLY have high speed internet (I say "may" because it has not been smooth so far).
I'm betting that NONE of the computers, routers, modems, and so forth will be working in what - maybe five years - ten years at the most...?
I just went outside and shot a 115-year-old rifle, and it worked PERFECTLY.
SO - one more reason some of us like guns. They just WORK.

I don't know for sure. I have never shot a gun with a computer, but I have shot a computer with a gun and it would not have been able to operate ever again.

Such a timely post. I just canceled "fast" internet and will return to dial up for my rural connection because it just didn't work. But, my lever never fails to speak with much authority.

Gentlemen,
I guess it depends on your environment. I unfortunitly am stuck in a very urban area. Firearms are only barely tolerated. Firearms, loading, shooting and hunting have been the love of my life, but a computer can make and save money. I would prefer to live by and with a firearm. The computer actually serves me better. Not as much fun.

See my thread on the 1863 Caribine - you wouldn't want to face that thing. Two bullet in an 1 1/2" at 50 yds even though I had to sight then raise my head to shoot, with paper cartridges.

Ironically, I too am having issues with my DSL. My wife is upset because she just bought a new laptop that's now handicapped. I'll also add how excited she was to get this $800 laptop that she'll be using for her photography. She was somewhat disappointed that I wasn't more excited for her. I told her I could understand her excitement with a new toy, comparing it to me getting a new gun. What I didn't tell her was that her laptop will be worthless in a couple years and my gun would hold or gain value. In her defense though, her photography did pay for the laptop.
