45-70s. While the Old man's off sailing aroud the Carribean
I get to Babysit!! and some others.
The 1873 is almost mint w/ some case colors still on the breach block. My Dad bought it at a little gun shop for $12.00. The 1884 is also in great shape. My Grandfather paid $2.50 for that one W/ the bayonett!!!
The SRC he bought @ 6-8 years ago. That one cost him!! $750 I think, Not bad these days.
The 1886 is a 45-70. the butt stock is a replacement otherwise it's origional.
Anybody got a suggestion for a nice MILD load for the Springfields?

I suggest boxing them up and sending them to me. I will very mildley load them and then go crazy shooting them. Sorry I just couldn't resist being a smart ***. Great guns

Smokeless....29 grains of H4198 behind a 405 gr LFN
BP- since you have a carbine, load 65 grains of FFg, compressed with an .030 veggie wad behind a min .459 sized 20-1 405 grain LRN/LFN
or, and this works better for mine:
70 grains of FFg compressed behind a 20-1, Hollow Base, sized .4595" no wad. COL 2.5" +/- .010"

Jason,
Mild load for the Springfields? I have been using 11 grains of Unique behind a 350-425 gr. bullet for over 30 years. Its a no-brainer load. Below the speed of sound. Just load it loose in the case. but............................................you can't be day dreaming when loading it. You will eat steel with a double charge!--------Sixgun
