Suppose it would work fine, but that's a little too redneck for me.

Crude but effective.
Not nearly as attractive a solution as Clyde Ludwig safety replacement. I just got another one for my new 1894 in 44 mag. It's just too bad there needs to be a "solution". Some people may not mind or maybe even like(?) the add on safeties, but personally they make me want to throw up.

To me, that is what I'd call elegant, simple application of a standardized product fulfilling a need in a non-standard manner.
A true redneck solution be two coils of bailin wire and twist knot, leavin' an 1/8" barb to jab yer thumb evertime ya forgot ya'd lockd the safety out!

Griff,
I actually saw ( before red tagging it ) a bailing wire solution on a new production helicopter.

Now I just wish they'd come up with one like that for the PUMA's...!

Re: Another Rednecked Marlin Safety Fix
Not a Bad Idea. I like the E-Clip, ought to be reliable, if you're going to leave the safety in place. I never trusted the O-ring that much, but it probably works just fine, also. Currently I have no Marlins with the crossbolt, I don't buy new rifles with add on safetys, at least I havn't in a long time. The manufactures have pretty much lost me as a new customer, when they start adding those darned safetys and junk on their new guns.
Thankgoodness there are still some older models around, although I have been tempted, but every one I ever bought except one Winchester 94 has been traded off, that had any of that stuff on it.

Re: Another Rednecked Marlin Safety Fix
I saw this somewhere else and read all the posts that went with it. Personally I think it's a dandy idea for someone who does not want to remove the safety, and who wants a reversible but permanent method to deactivate it.
My 1894 Cowboy had an O-Ring on it when I bought it and it worked great. You simply could not force that safety to the "on" position with that o-ring in place. I still replaced the safety with a Clyde Ludwig unit. I'm with nemhed in regards to these add on safety widgets.

Couldn't agree more. It's rebounding Hammer's and slide safetys that really PO me to Brownings and Winnies!J Miller wrote:I saw this somewhere else and read all the posts that went with it. Re: Another Rednecked Marlin Safety Fix
The no cost, no extra add on method is to just tighten down the ball detent set screw and lock the safety in place.

+1
That's exactly what I do no charge if requested when I do the action work on a marlin.

Re: Another Rednecked Marlin Safety Fix
Now fellas
I have gone to some effort and expense to collect all variations of none and the lever safeties. Well, I don't have all the Savage variations.
