That's about the only way to do it as far as I know.
Been wanting to do that too.

Is it a round barrel or octagon? The Rossi straight oct with about any flat bottom weaver rail will work. Just D&T for it. The round barrel carbine though requires a rail made to fit the contour of the barrel.
Something like this one. That's a Propoint red dot. I sets a little high for a good cheek weld, though.

This one uses one of the holo red dots and does away with the rings but is still a bit high.

I'm working on one that will use the Burris FastFire. It will mount in the dovetail with maybe one hole to D&T but, because it is about half theize of the other one it should be considerable lower.

That is what I am looking for. I plan on using a Burris scout scope and want it as low as on my '94 win. Doug

I believe that the M94 is an A.E. model , right?
That's why the NO D&T.
As near as I can tell, no one has ever made a Scout Mount for a Win 94 Top Eject that didn't require some D&T work.
Even the Burris required the barrel band be tapped. I hate to see the confusion and misunderstanding when ALL of the criteria is not included.
Before spring, I hope to use an XS mount and some fiberglass or epoxy to mount up a Rossi M92 ,Round bbl. I do not have a problem w/D&T issues.
