Some old western guns

Post by bogus bill »

Since we had a thread on movie guns and equipment not being authentic, I though I would show a number I have and a few I let go of. I had some more of old western guns, but dont have pictures.

I enjoyed those photos, Bill. Thanks for posting them.

Nice pics BB. What is the double barrel pistol? I was given one years ago and never knew what it was. The one I have has no markings on it, and has what appear to be brass barrels. If I get a chance I will post a picture.

I love that M.92. I'll bet there's a lot of campfire smoke on that one. If only that old guy could talk!

Thanks guys. That double barrel must be a old one off. It is 50 cal teat or pin fire with folding triggers. I figure it dates in the 1840s. My old collector friend gave me that gun about 40 years ago. He was very knowledgable and thought it might be a "boarding pistol" for sailors or pirates as it had a couple of screw holes for a clip to wear on a sash. There is no marking at all on the gun. My guess is spanish, belgin or french made. I have seen one other almost alike.
The lighting, the 1878 and the SAA all came from my friend through the years. He was my mentor and got me started collecting. Ura "Duke" Duvall would now be in his mid 90s but died about 10 years ago. I will explain the other guns a little later. Without checking my records, I belive the 92 was about 1904 and came off a indian reservation in the Dakotas. Its .44 wcf and I dont have it anymore. I had some nice stuff years ago that I foolishly traded off or was stolen. A sharps carbine, springfield trapdoor, old whitneyville heavy 50 cal buffalo rifle, winchester 73, another 92 rifle, more colt SAAs, etc. That top colt SAA started life as a .44 wcf in 4 3/4" and was shipped to the copper queen mine in Bisbee Ariz in 1906. It later was converted to .44 spec by old gun writer tommy bish and king gun works owner arnold capone who was dukes brother in law.
All that era is my main intrest, but cant afford or find stuff cheap anymore. The biggest part of my collection is classic S&W guns. I also have 7 or 8 fine colts and about 8 or 9 classic winchesters. I have only bought a couple guns in the last dozen years. Most my stuff I bought in the 60s to 85.

Hey .45 guy, here is another picture or two of that double barrel. I want to add that the remington new model army was refinished many years ago before I bought it. It has a red post king front sight and the hog wallow squared out. Shoots nice. Also that colt SAA with faux ivory is around 1900 been poorly refinished and is .32 WCF. Shoots nice though. I have several 3rd gen colt saa,s also.

Here is a picture of that 7 1/2" colt when I once bought a shortened ejector rod houseing and christy barrel. I tried it awhile and had the 7 1/2" barrel put back on it as I got it. The idiots that reinstaled the 7 1/2" shined the front of the frame! I still have the short barrel and houseing. The old holster came with a old .38 WCF colt SAA that later got liberated by my ex when she ran off with many more. Still have that holster too.

While I am at it, once again, even though it doesnt exactly fit in here, Here is the Audie Murphy colt New Frontier that he had. It is serial #5355 NF, well documented that my ex ran off with 21 years ago and I still am looking for it! I post it regularly here and on other sites. (.45 colt)

Oh, that running off part really sucks.

What caliber is your shortie barrel and have you ever thought of getting rid of it?

I looked back on your post and I think I found where it's a 44 special.

Kimwcook, it is .44 special, I forget what the markings on the barrel are, I will find it and look at it. I am not sure but someone else told me they thought "christy" made the setup many years ago. I bought the ejector and barrel at a gunshow 35 years ago or so. Personnaly, I didnt like the setup, as the ejector would just barely push the empty back. I have a shortened cimmeron that is similar. Here are a couple pictures. Let me chew on it.
