S.N. break question for Winchester guys please.

Post by Chuck 100 yd »

Does anybody know at what S.N. Winchester started to use forged receivers again? I understand it to be about 1981. Did they make them for a while in top eject with half cock hammer systems?

I have been mostly playing with Marlins and need to get another Win. to round out my collection a little. I have only pre 64 Winchesters now.
Maybe I could find a project gun and don`t want a sintered metal one.
Thanks!

Chuck I posted a list over in the other thread where you asked that. Didn't you see it?

J Miller, thanks, I guess what I wanted to know most is when did the cross bolt safety and rebounding hammer start? there must be some top ejects that had forged steel recievers and came without cross bolt safety or rebounding hammer. Yes/No?
So this would put the first of them at SN.5,024,957 or above?

Chuck,

I don't have serial numbers for these features, just when they were introduced. Maybe someday someone will come up with a serial number vs date list like for the pre AE models.

Here is a list given to me by OD.
Rebounding hammer introduced 1981
Angle Eject introduced 1983
.45 Colt Trapper model introduced 1985
Hammers drilled and tapped for offset extension introduced 1986
Bull barrels introduced for Trappers 1991
Link pin retaining screw returns in 1991
Cross bolt safety introduced 1992
Tang safety introduced 2004
Mdl 94, 70 and 1300 discontinued March 2006
This is all I have really. I wish I had more.
