Marlin 1895CB Sights?

Not crazy about the "Buckhorn" sight on my 1895CB. Anyone have any recommendations for a good replacement sight....mainly for hunting.

The Williams FP is hard to beat - I mount mine on the FORWARD scope mount holes, because there's plenty of sight radius still (way better than barrel-mounted sights!) and it isn't in the way of the hammer, and doesn't bother me when I carry the gun one handed.

If you really prefer barrel-mounted sights or want to keep your scope mounting options open and use sights for 'backup' you can slip in a $14 Ruger Ranch Rifle rear sight, which is a flip-up aperture on a dovetail base, and it works well with the factory front sight.

If our internet was high speed I'd link to the pictures of both setups I've used as above, but sounds like you might most like the Williams FP. You can "ghost ring" it by unscrewing the aperture, and it still is easy to shoot 3" groups at 100 yards with. If you shoot alot at dusk, order their "low light" aperture that has a brass ring around it for clarity at night.

If I had a Cowboy, I might be inclined to try one of the Skinner recever sights, since the cowboy isn't drilled and tapped on the side for a William's receiver sight. Williams makes a recever sight for the top mounted scope holes of the cowboy, but it's just not the same, and I don't think I would like it, nearly as well as the older side mounted receiver sights.

Wild West Guns, Sells receiver sights also, I think.

The top-mount sight is a whole lot smaller than the side-mount though, if that's a factor.

I went with the brass Skinner on my 1894CB, I thought the brass kinda matched the old school look of the CB's
Great sight if your the kind of shooter that sets his sights and forgets about them. If you like to try a bunch of loads and are adjusting your sight allot and need a adjustable sight for long range it my not be your best bet.
