XS sight on Model 92 (Rossi)
Anyone have a m92 with the XS? I finally have my 44 back and want to change the sights. I have a tang sight and a receiver sight standing by but don't want to start drilling and tapping just yet. I have a tang sight on my 45lc with 24" octagon barrel and it looks and works great. But it looks and feels funny on the 16" 44 carbine. Before I sent my 44 off I had a williams receiver sight on it, and while it definitely is a great sight it just looks out of place on the 16" barreled 44. So that kind of leaves me with the XS. Any thoughts?

Well yeah I do have some thoughts. I have a Williams FP on my 16" Win 94 Trapper 30-30, and a Lyman 66A on my 16" Win 94AE Trapper .45 Colt. I think they look just fine there. Perfectly functional, lots of windage and elevation adjustability if needed. Out of the way. They sit low and don't require a taller front sight.Any thoughts?
I'd just stick that Williams sight right back on it.

True, this is a Winchester 94 but you can see the Williams FP94/36 on the rear and the XS stripe front sight - works great.
If the appearance is a concern - here is my Hi Grade Winchester 95 in 30-06 with the Williams FP71 and it works good also and I don't think it hurts the looks of the rifle - though I'll admit - beauty (or oposite) are in the eye of the beholder. It wasn't even D/T for it as the 94 was. Both required taller front sights and here's the XS white stripe on tthe 95-

Hope this is some help.

It's do-able but if you have the bolt top safety it should be plugged so the sight can be set on the back end.

Thanks for the replies. OJ that Winchester is just plain ugly how can you stand to take out of the safe.
Steve, that is exactly the picture I was looking for, thanks. I have already gone over the rifle via your DVD. Installed one of your safety plugs and mag followers, and polished and stoned the innards. It is slick as snot. A little stoning on the trigger and hammer and it is a clean 3.5lbs. I had a gunslinger spring on the trigger but it broke at 1.5lbs. While nice, it was a bit scary for a gun I plan to hunt with.
As for the sight, you all have me looking at returning to the Williams. Thanks.

Thanks for noticing - its looks cut into my shooting time since, at the range, other shooters keep interrupting my shooting because they want to get a better look at it 'cause they've never seen one quite like it !!Curiousgb wrote:Thanks for the replies. We all have our crosses to bear !! I only force myself to shoot it regularly because I don't want to hurt my wife's feelings - it was her gift to me on our 25th anniversary and you know how little expertise some women have about guns - and how sensitive they are.

I think Steve makes a sight that fits in the hole removing the safety leaves. Very clean looking.

I think I need to clarify something. The XS won't work with my button safety. The the gun pictured above is a stainless 454 that originally had the safety but it now has the hole plugged and ground flush so it will pass under the XS. Notice the "F" and "S" there where the safety would have been.Curiousgb wrote:Thanks for the replies. OJ that Winchester is just plain ugly how can you stand to take out of the safe.![]()

I know how sensitive I am. If my wife gave me a Winny like that I would sure shed a tear. Mine gave me a Ruger #1a in 7x57 when I retired from the Coast Guard. I thought that was nice.OJ wrote:We all have our crosses to bear !! Steve, thanks for the heads up. I think at this point I am leaning towards the Wiliams receiver sight. I already have it and it is really easy to install.

To be totally honest, I did help her locate and buy it for me - she's been taking good care of me nearly three decades now and I am grateful every day for her.
For example, all she wanted for our 25th anniversary was this little ring - in all fairness - she got to pick it out too.

Not only that - she's convinced she got the best of the deal - women - gotta love'em
