Totally OT - ANZAC Cookies!

Post by airedaleman »

And a "Thank you" to our Down Under comrades!

While shopping with the Light of My Life, I stumbled on -believe it or not - theses cookies. They're a genuine product of Australia (they're darn' good cookies, by gosh), and the VFW gets 4% of the profits from their sale. On the back of the package is a brief history of and mission statement fo the VFW, and this:

"Century-Long Allies

Australian and American soldiers have been serving side-by-side since China in 1900. New Zealanders joined the Australians in World War I to form the famed Australian-New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC). Together with the Americans, they have fought in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan, and Iraq. As with all armies, home front support was vital. To support the troops overseas, women of these two countries baked what became known as the ANZAC cookie. This treat was a great boost to morale. In a similar spirit, Australian-based UNIBIC and VFW have joined forces to present this product which provides direct support to America's veterans."Image

I was not aware that UNIBIC had gone international with their ANZAC biscuits.

Some background here: http://www.unibic.com/?p=24

If you've a mind to make your own here's a recipe:

1 cup of rolled oats
I cup plain flour
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup dessicated coconut
1/2 cup butter
2 tablespoons golden syrup
1 tablespoon boiling water
1/2 teaspoon bicarb soda

Mix oats, flour, sugar and coconut
Melt butter & syrup together
Mix soda with boiling water & add to melted butter & syrup
Add to dry mixture
Place tablespoonfuls on tray
Bake in slow oven 150 deg. for 15-20 min

Australia can never repay American veterans for what they did for us at Coral Sea and Guadacanal, if it hadn't been for them Japan would have taken Australia, that is why I can't stand Australians that bad mouth America, especially these young know-alls of todays generation.

I have been buying Anzac cookies in England. They support the Royal British Legion, which looks after Veterans over here.
They're also bloody nice cookies!! :D

Now - do you know of a source for Australian SHIRAZ that supports something other than police-state socialist disarmament...?

Love that kind of wine, and I'd really rather buy from a company which is pro-gun, pro-veteran, pro-something other than just pro-gun-grabbing-government...

I kind of thought UNIBIC's efforts were worthy of note.

And I propose a toast:

Here's to our English-speaking cousins around the world. We have together fought and defeated Tyranny - in many guises - for more than a hundred years. With God's help, may this cooperation and mutual admiration last forever!

Yeah well, y'all fellers talk funny like anyhows...

Now I gotta go dig through the boot of my auto and find the torch in case a tyre goes flat. Might open the bonnet of the saloon and check the earl too...

Your countrymen did their part in WWII. Free people need to stick together. The important thing is for us all to do what we can and cooperate. That earns us all the right to be free.
