OT - National Ammunition Day

Post by Ysabel Kid »

My calendar says today is "National Ammunition Day". Last year on November 19 we celebrated the day by going out to buy a box, case, crate, etc. of ammunition to show our support for the manufacturers and retailers of same. Did they repeat the event this year?

I won't be able to do so today, as I am traveling on business, but I will make up for it this weekend! :D

I'm fairly sure that November 4 was National Ammunition and High Capacity Magazine Day this year.

Yeah, last week was Nat'l Ammo Week for me. My Visa will take a few months to recover from the celebration.

Then again, the Nat'l Gun Show is this weekend in VA. Well see what else follows me home!

I was on another forum last night where some members questioned weather this was a scam or not.

I can't remember if I first heard of this last year or 2 years ago.

Does anyone know when it started?

I believe Kim Du Toit started it. It is NOT a scam. It IS an excellent excuse, er, reason to go out and buy some more components and/or ammunition. It is my personal opinion that buying EBR and handgun ammo (even if you are going to shoot it in a rifle) is the best.

I know it's not a scam myself. I have supported it since I first learned about it, including today. One site I was on posted a link for a national ammo day website. I was hoping to find it and show it here.

On various sites I'm seeing an increased number of first time gun owners asking lots of questions. If I respond in anyway I want it to be accurate. I seem to find the greatest accumulation of knowledge on this site. Not that other sites don't have knowledgeable members, just that there seems to be a greater number of them concentrated here on a wide variety of weapons.

Well, I didn't buy any fixed ammo. But I did buy a percussion pistol, and more black powder. You know, it seems like you have more than enough powder, primers, wads and balls, then suddenly, the cupboard is almost bare. I just can't figure out where it all goes.

Every day should be Ammo Day. Kinda like every day should be Mother's Day.

Thanks for the reminder. I was going to buy some ammo this Friday anyway, on payday, but for the sake of Ammo Day, I did drive to an area Bass Pro and get 2 five-packs of buckshot and 50 12 gauge target loads, about all I could afford with cash on hand.

Yep, Kim duToit gave us two days to remember Nov 19 "National Ammo Day" http://www.ammoday.com (also his birthday). And April 15 "Buy A Gun (BAG) Day".

Put them on your calendars and let all gunnies participate.

On a sad note Kim duToit is retiring from the blogosphere in a couple of weeks. Be sure and stop in http://www.theothersideofkim.com. I'll miss his commentary and gun pics. He inspired me to purchase more guns, become a rifleman again and to get others into shooting.

How could it be a scam? Nobody's asking you for anything. It's a birthday, is where the date came from, I think. I've supported it as long as I've known about it, 3 or 4 years. I have never had a retailer acknowledge they're aware of it or any difference in their sales, though. Hopefully that's a local failing.
